The characteristic features of the route to substituted anthranilic acid derivatives (XIII) consist of substitution at 2- position of bromoanthranilic acid (II) with the oxadiazolyl ring structure, (VII), conversion into benzylidene derivatives (XI), and cyclization into pyrazolines (XIII). Similarly, the thiadiazolyl derivatives are prepared by substitution at 2-position of anthranilic acid (I). Compounds possessing an oxadiazolyl moiety generally show better antiinflammatory property than compounds having a thiadiazolyl ring. Compounds bearing substituents as in (XIIIb) or (XIIIc) elicit a remarkable increase in antiinflammatory activity. — (SHARMA, SHALABH; SRIVASTAVA, VIRENDRA KISHOR; KUMAR, ASHOK; Eur. J. Med.
