Entice Cafe, MaitlandYou might be forgiven for driving past Entice Café on Ken Tubman Drive in Maitland, we almost don’t want to tell you about it as it’s our little secret…..The café is part of the Quest Apartments building. There is no parking outside the café, so the main car park is a good idea as it is just over the road. The café itself is bright, clean and fresh and the service has always been incredibly warm and welcoming. We first started going there a year ago when our pup was just a few months old as we can sit in the covered courtyard at the front. We now have two dogs and they are always made to feel as welcome as we are.The menu is quite varied, although we confess, the burger and hot chips is a firm favourite. We are creatures of habit! Of course you don’t just have to have breakfast or lunch – with great coffee and tea available and a selection of sweet things we’ve seen many people just drop in for a natter over a slice. It’s our favourite bolt hole in Maitland. We can’t fault the friendly service, good food and central location. They’re open in the evenings too!

Sensational 'God of Carnage' at NTCThe comedy of manners without the manners, ‘God of Carnage’, written by acclaimed playwright Yazmina Reza makes its Newcastle debut!March 29 to April 12 Wed, Fri, Sat 8pm, 2pm Matinees March 30 & April 5After an altercation between two school children that leaves one needing medical attention, the parents of the two children decide to meet up and resolve the issues. After all, adults are not at all like children right? Over the course of this play, it is discovered that the parents may have more issues than simply figuring out who are the better parents. Discussions about how much time they put into their children, what lessons they teach them and arguments about who cares more, escalate. Throw in some alcohol, a bad cake and an argument about a missing hamster into the mix and we see the collapse of everyone on stage. This play was a sensation at it’s Broadway premiere In 2009, where it won best play and best director. Directed by Newcastle director John Wood, making his NTC directorial debut, and starring a stunning ensemble of Linda Read, Michael Byrne, Richard Murray and Rosemary Dartnell. For 90 minutes let ‘God of Carnage’ take you to the surreal, where we will all pretend that we don’t act like this.BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL Ph 4952 4958. 3pm-6pm Mon - Fri. Speers Point Park, Lake Macquarie

Keep the whole family entertained these holidays with a range of activities to suit everyone including discovering the sea caves, boating and kayaking on the lake, exploring the cycle trails or carving up the skate parks.

Beaches and Sea CavesSneak a final visit to one of the beautiful, patrolled beaches before winter starts. Enjoy spectacular coastal walks or catch some waves at a quality surf spot. Caves Beach is a long time family favourite, complete with sea caves, tunnels, and rock pools for the kids to explore on a low tide.

Speers Point ParkVisit the ‘Best Play Space in Australia’, the Lake Macquarie Variety Playground at Speers Point Park. The fully fenced playground spans just under 2 hectares and features a double flying fox, 9-metre spiral slide, wheelchair accessible play boat and much more. In addition, parents can enjoy a quiet break at Sal’s by the Lake Cafe next door.

Explore the LakeTake the family out on the water and explore the natural surroundings of Lake Macquarie. Hire a boat for the day and enjoy lunch on the lake, stop for a spot of fishing or take a dip in the water. Alternatively, hire a Kayak and spend a few hours on the water exploring one of the many kayak trails on the lake or take a thrill ride with Jetbuzz and experience the sights of Lake Macquarie on their Jet Boat thrill rides.

Discover Scenic CircuitsEnjoy the fresh balmy air and hire a bicycle to explore one of the cycling trails in the area. Explore the restored heritage rail corridor stretching over 15 kilometres featuring railway relics along its length from Adamstown to Belmont. Enjoy the brisk lake breeze of the Warners Bay foreshore featuring a 400 metre elevated boardwalk built over the lake at Redbluff, Eleebana, or visit Wangi Wangi Point Flora and Fauna reserve and discover one of the four trails ranging in length from 500-metres to 2 kilometres.

Skate ParksBudding skaters will enjoy visiting one of the nine skate parks around Lake

Macquarie to work their skills on the board or in a pair of skates. Swansea is a great choice as the park caters for all skill levels with the southern end of the park suited for inexperienced riders and the northern end offering obstacles that are more challenging. While the kids play, the parents can enjoy the beautiful water views over the Swansea Channel.

The Landing Bar and KitchenThe BarWhether it’s a few afternoon beers in the bustling beer garden, a relaxed cocktail or two in the lounge bar, or a glass of wine overlooking the water, there are plenty of places for a sneaky drink (or a few) at The Landing.

The carefully crafted wine list celebrates the great variety of wines available ‘up the road’, with a few outsiders included to balance it out. All are great with food or just with friends!

We have a great selection of Australian and imported beers, and if you haven’t tried a cocktail – do! We think they’re the best in town. Open: Monday – Sunday Midday til Late

The KitchenThe Landing Kitchen offers everything from a charcuterie plate or pizza to share over drinks with friends, to something more substantial like a juicy steak, fresh fish or hand rolled gnocchi - perfect for a long lunch or relaxed dinner. Our menu philosophy is all about fresh, simple, seasonal, quality food. Drop in for lunch and drink in the view, or enjoy the sights and sounds of the harbour by night.

You can eat with us on any day of the week.

Wollombi Valley is nestled between the Watagan Forests and Yengo National Park, just an hour and a half from Sydney at the gateway to the Hunter Valley. Wollombi has a rich

convict history, reflected in the many original sandstone buildings and cottages peppered throughout the area. The Endeavour Museum is a great place to explore local history, located opposite the famous Wollombi Tavern – home of Dr Jurds Jungle Juice.

Wollombi is a photographer’s dream with a unique flavour all its own, offering experiences to suit everyone. Here you can enjoy a picnic lunch, a fine dining restaurant or the immensely popular local cafes and shops, everything from a nursery and an antique store to a world class wool store and several quirky gift shops. Accommodation ranges from farm stays and self contained guesthouses

to gorgeous boutique B&Bs set amongst the bush.

The Wollombi Valley Wine Trail offers a diverse range of locally produced wines and a friendly welcome to all. Wollombi is also home to Australia’s largest private sculpture park, Defiance Gallery on a former lavender farm. Enjoy all the Fun and Gusto at the Hunter Valley's Italian Festival!

Rejoice in all that is A Little Bit of Italy in Broke. Indulge in the bella Broke Fordwich Wine Region for fun and gusto at this two day event that gives visitors to the little known and tranquil

destination the opportunity to enjoy a great Italian fiesta and experience mouth watering gourmet delights, which have long been the world’s envy! It’s Italy without the airfare!

Broke is like a secret, one you can’t wait to share; it’s romantic, sophisticated and worth the trip (approximately two and a half hours from Sydney, or 15 minutes west of Hunter Valley’s main hub).

Now in its 7th year, the festival that started out as a private dinner catered by an Italian chef has grown into a celebration of all that is wine, food, music, family and community, coloured by the enthusiasm associated with the Italians' enjoyment of these things.Starting at the "Passport Office" in the main street of the village of Broke, visitors receive their passport and begin their journey. The price of entry is the $5 purchase of a souvenir tasting glass, which is used at each venue for a free sample of the local wines. The passport lists the twelve participating venues and the food and entertainment to be found there. As the visitor travels from venue to venue they can get their passport stamped, allowing them to go into the draw for over $2,000 worth of local premium wines, gourmet produce and accommodation.Over 3,000 people each year enjoy this event, many returning over and over again.Situated in the broad valley of the Broke Fordwich Wine Region, the area is a registered sub-region of the Hunter

Valley, with its producers committed to the veracity and integrity of their quality wines.Although exclusively a 'boutique' wine region, there is no lack of prize winners. In the last decade local wines have won many hundreds of prestigious prizes both in Australia and overseas and the reputation continually grows. Here is an opportunity to discover 'The Tranquil Side of the Hunter' for yourself, and form a relationship with the friendly owners of some of the Hunter's best cellar doors, in one of the most picturesque regions in Australia.Che sta per essere un buon weekend! Cessnock is a sub-region of the Hunter Valley, 120 kilometres north of Sydney, 40 kilometres west of Newcastle and 30 kilometres from the coast.

Pastoralists commenced settling the land in the 1820’s. The township of Cessnock developed from 1850, as a service centre at the junction of the Great North Road, with branches to Black Creek (Branxton) and Maitland.

During the 1860’s, land settlement was extensive between Nulkaba and Pokolbin with wheat, tobacco and grape growing, the main crops. Coal mining was the principal industrial base of the Cessnock area for over fifty years. Changes in mining, including automation and the introduction of sophisticated computerised equipment, have lead to the closure of some mines in the area and this, together with the natural ageing of the population, has resulted in a decline in population in some villages over the last twenty years.

The Hunter Valley wine-growing area in Cessnock City is one of Australia’s oldest wine regions and one of the most famous with around 4,500 acres under vine. The vineyards of Pokolbin, Mount View and Allandale, with their rich volcanic soils tended by entrepreneurial vignerons, are also the focus of a thriving and growing

tourism industry. The town has a number of fine restaurants, guesthouses and galleries.

The Convict Trail is a conservation project that is restoring the convict-built Great North Road. This is one of Australia's national historic treasures.

Kurri Kurri is famous for its Murals, they are a wonderful expression of our history and region, and tours are available all year round, we have many coach groups coming into town to view these amazing outdoor artworks and are proud to be the biggest Mural town in Australia.

There are now over 50 murals, making Kurri Kurri the largest mural town in Australia.  New murals are currently underway.  Don't forget to look for the kookaburra in every mural, some are quite difficult to find.

To book a tour, enquire about projects contact the Kurri Kurri VIC 4936 1909.

Morpeth is an area of outstanding natural beauty and offers a great experience for everyone who enjoys the pleasure of a walk in a country village with the opportunity of shopping and dining in unique style.

It's a little place not far from Maitland, with a history to make us all proud. Morpeth was once upon a time a busy river port and frontier town established during the late 1820's. The Heritage buildings and Bond Stores stand in testament indeed, Morpeth was the largest inland seaport of the new Australian colony and commercial icons Brambles, Simsmetal, Arnotts and Soul's Pharmacy were born in this magnificent place.

Set along the banks of the Hunter River, the drive to Morpeth is an added attraction. The green fields stretch for miles and the weeping willows sway in the breeze. It is very hard to find a place to match our beautiful Morpeth.

As you stroll through the cobblestoned village you will notice that Morpeth has everything from art galleries to specialty shops to a Trading Post and even a Bazaar. Local artisans and

craftspeople have their wares for sale throughout the town.

You will have the opportunity to taste locally made fudge and sip ginger beer. Fine fashion, teddy bears, art and craft, tempting treats to take home, beautiful jewellery, home furnishings and objects of interest, we promise that you will find them in Morpeth.

A range of restaurants and cafes offer al fresco dining, river views, heritage surroundings and a cosmopolitan standard of menu. Grab a bottle of the finest wine available for tasting from the local wine cellar then select your café, even the most finicky of foodies will find something to their liking.

Morpeth does have its own museum, a service that traces family names and shields, St Johns Theological college and is home to the beautiful St James church to name but a few of the significant buildings throughout the town.

Just down the road a way is a structure of a different nature. The infamous Maitland Gaol is now open to the public, experience what it's like to walk in the footsteps of some of Australia's

most notorious criminals.

Morpeth, the town, the heritage, the buildings and carriage ways make this a place to not only visit but make a regular event.

What to See & Do■ Take a Ghost Tour and find out about the real history of Morpeth.

■ Morpeth is National Trust classified, so take one of the Heritage Walks - enjoy the colorful history of Morpeth and its characters - in a living museum of Australia’s past.

■ Browse over 40 specialty shops and boutiques - gift shops, antique shops, galleries, lolly shops, a tea house, ginger beer factory and bakery.

■ Visit the Morpeth Museum housed in the old Court House built in 1862.

Tocal - Paterson - Vacy - East Gresford - Gresford

There is a lot on offer for visitors to the Allyn & Paterson River Valley, just two and a half hours’ drive from Sydney, an hour from Newcastle and where Dr Henry Lindeman planted his first grape vines in 1843.Here you will discover the towns of Paterson, Vacy, Gresford and East Gresford, ringed by the ancient Moonabung Ranges and criss-crossed by the pristine waters of the two rivers that flow from the Barrington Tops.First stop could be historic Tocal Homestead for tales of the olden days of bushrangers, graziers, and other

characters who inhabited one of the greatest Australian cattle and horse studs of its time. Have a look at the rare architect-designed barn built around 1867, and the gracious Colonial Georgian country house. Tocal Homestead is a very popular venue for weddings and milestone celebrations.Paterson has inspired many artists to pick up a brush to try to capture this picturesque Australian country town on canvas. Look at the many fine old homes, grand commercial buildings, museums, art gallery, pubs, cafes, parks and shops that contribute to Paterson’s unique style.9km north of Paterson is Vacy, with rugged Mt George to the west. It is well worth a visit to the café, hotel, arts & crafts shop and general store for a taste of country hospitality, great food and quirky crafts. Travel over the Vacy bridge, circa 1898, to Bunna Bunoo olive grove and gift shop. You can see

the roof tops of the cabins and lodges such as Banjos Bushland Retreat and Cabins in the Clouds on Mt George, perfect destinations for weekend getaways or a longer stay. The small towns of Gresford and East Gresford are the gateway to Lostock Dam, Mt Allyn and the Chichester State Forest to the north. Take the Allyn River Road drive past homesteads set among rolling green hills and granite outcrops. Visit Clevedon craft shop, Natural Furniture Works, the Beatty Hotel and Camyr Allyn winery. History lovers will enjoy a drive to St Anne’s Anglican Church and suspension bridge, and St Mary’s on Allyn at Allynbrook.
