KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMS
Students must be 5 by September 1st to enroll in Kindergarten
Full Day Kindergarten:• Tuition-based kindergarten program- $3,800 annually
• 5 days per week for 6 ½ hours from 8:20 a.m.-2:50 p.m.
• Longer day offers additional academic blocks as well as socialization periods during recessperiods, a lunch period in the cafeteria, and participation in specialist periods.
• During the 2019-2020 school year, 151 of the 153 kindergarten students participate in thefull day program.

Half Day Kindergarten: • Tuition-free program
• 5 days per week for 3 hours and 10 minutes from 8:20 a.m. -11:30 a.m.
• Half day students are included in full day kindergarten classrooms and dismissed prior to lunch.
• Students in the half day kindergarten program do not participate in specialist periods.
• The half-day kindergarten program meets the Massachusetts Time on Learning requirements of 425 instructional hours per year.
• During the 2019-2020 school year, 2 out of 153 students have participated in the half day program.

• Explore beginning reading comprehension through read-alouds
• Begin to decode or sound out words and read simple leveled reader texts.
• Express thoughts with expanding oral language and in writing.
• Promote literacy independence through the Daily 5 Literacy Program, Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Work on Writing, and Word Work.
• Participate in small group reading to work with teacher

and provides 4 meal choices
daily.

Applications will be accepted (entered into the lottery) from: • February 3rd - February 14th and February 24th – February 28th -school days only from
10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Bresnahan School Upper Office- access using North Atkinson Street and enter at Door #1.
