FROM THE PRINCIPAL
School Review
With state wide school reviews currently occurring, last week Newbery Park Primary
School hosted the DECD school review team for 2 days. The review team took the
time to talk with families, students and staff. Thank you to all those who participated.
It was wonderful to hear overwhelming positive feedback from the review team
about our school and the great learning which we are doing. We will receive the
formal review findings document in the coming weeks.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It kick starts our metabolism,
prepares the brain in anticipation for the days work ahead and helps us get through
until our first brain break of the day. Newbery Park Primary is extremely fortunate to
have a breakfast club program to help those students who have not been able to
have breakfast at home because there is nothing to eat (we have all run out of
bread or supplies from time to time) or who have slept in and have not had time to
prepare anything. Our breakfast club program is there to help our students have a
breakfast and be ready to learn. The program is run on very generous donations
and food stuffs supplied to us at very reduced costs, however, some students are
using breakfast club every day, making specific breakfast orders and when being
provided with breakfast are throwing it away. Can all families please talk with their
children at home about the importance of breakfast and making the time to have
this at home or if the need to use the breakfast club arises remind them to use
manners and eat what they take, rather than throwing it away. Thank-you for
supporting this wonderful program which is run and organised by our magnificent
volunteers.
NAPLAN results
Students in year 3, 5 & 7 will have their results from our NAPLAN testing going home
tomorrow. Please read all associated communication which will be with these test
results. If you have any questions directly related to your child’s test please make an
appointment with your child’s classroom teacher.
50th Celebration
Newbery Park Primary School has a wonderful celebration coming up; we are
turning 50. To celebrate this occasion we would like acknowledge the schools
position within the Millicent Community by having a birthday party. To do this we
require an organising committee. On the 17th of September at 6pm in the Newbery
Park Primary School library we are holding a committee meeting for any interested
person, past and present.
Kind Regards,
Stuart Miller

Newbery Park Primary School celebrated another successful Book Week last week.
Once again we held a very popular ‘Book Fair’ in the Library which students really enjoyed.
Lots of families supported the fair by buying books, posters, pens, eraser etc. By doing this we
are entitled to spend $631.65 on new books for our very own Library. Great achievement, WELL DONE EVERYONE!!
The pin boards around the school and in classrooms were decorated with displays from each class of a Short-
Listed book of their choice. They all should be proud as they look fantastic!
Wednesday evening saw the return of ‘Bedtime Stories’ in the Library. Students and staff were dressed in their pjs
listening to four books beautifully read by Kristie Rowe. Before going home to bed students enjoyed a biscuit and
a Milo.
On Friday, staff and students joined in the spirit of Book Week and came dressed as their favourite book
character to go with our Book Week theme this year ‘Books light up our World’. It was great to see all the
different costumes when each class got to show the whole school at assembly. We had a very special guest at
our assembly, the Mayor Mr Peter Gandolfi, who was kind enough to judge the classes and pick the best dressed
from each class. They were, Harper Malthouse -The little Mermaid (Rm 1), Macey Peek -Queen of Hearts(Rm 2),
Darby Malthouse – Lego Ninja (Rm 3),Dominic Summers - Pirate (Rm 7), Tess Doecke- Wicked witch (Rm 6), Kaili
Peek -Alice in Wonderland- and Emilia Peek, (Kaili’s little sister)- Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland (Rm 10) and
Kurtis Job -ugly Step Sister/Alien (Rm 11)
The winners received book vouchers to spend at our book fair.
The highlight of Book Week this year was the presentation of the ‘Jan Procter Memorial Excellence in Reading
Award’, which was announced by the Mayor Mr Peter Gandolfi and presented to MADELEINE FEWSTER from room
6, Congratulations Madeleine!!
To celebrate the end of a very busy week the students enjoyed a piece of the Book Week cake which was cut by
Madeleine.

Newbery Park Primary School will once again be involved in this year’s Jeans for Genes Day. This year, due to
prior commitments and the planning of this term, the SRC, in collaboration with the staff, have decided to hold
this event on the last day of Term 3. Therefore, even though the official day has come and gone, we will be
holding it on Friday 25th September (Friday Week 10 Term 3). This is a great day to support a worthy cause and to
wear your favourite jeans or denim outfit on the day.
This will be a gold coin donation for each student and staff member, and even parents can be involved on the
day by wearing their denim jeans or jackets. The SRC will collect the gold coin donations and will oversee this
event on the day. Special Jeans For Genes Day pens will be given out to each student.
Please support this worthy cause as the Children’s Medical Research Institute continues their fight against
childhood diseases. Posters will be displayed around the School as well as information in the School Newsletter
and on its Facebook page.
Thanks

On Friday the 14th August Newbery Park Primary nominated two year 6/7 basketball teams to compete at the
local SAPSASA basketball carnival. The teams were both coached by Lori Cozzi, and both teams enjoyed some
successful wins and endured some challenging losses. Students represented the school with pride and integrity
and showed good sportsmanship and character in both the wins and losses they experienced. Overall the
carnival was a very good experience for our students to test their skills against some of the best players in their
age group in the STATE! Thanks to the parents who attended the day and assisted with any scoring duties!
