Fiji Airways, along with outgoing CEO Dave Pflieger, recently celebrated the arrival of the airline’s new Airbus A330 aircraft with a maiden commercial flight from Fiji to New Zealand. Hundreds of officials, business people, and onlookers awaited the arrival of the flight, which carried Fijian President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau on-board. In a nod to Fiji's heritage, this first of three new A330 aircraft is named after the Island of Taveuni, also known as “The Garden Island.” Dave Pflieger is now the CEO of Silver Airways in Florida. The inaugural flight offered New Zealanders a first-look at the fully equipped wide-bodied jet, which is the centerpiece of Fiji Airways' rebranding efforts rolled out in June 2013. The new aircraft has been designed with the latest technology, including onboard entertainment, to offer travelers the best in- flight experience. New Zealand holiday-makers also can expect more convenient flight schedules, with the airline now offering 13 flights per week from New Zealand.
