THE PROGRAMME: TALKS (10-15 mins): 1.30pm Orchid tricks and tactics: Australian and NZ orchids and their pollinators 2.00pm Plants from Hawaiki to Aotearoa: Adaptation of Eastern Polynesian ancestors of Maori to New Zealand’s Climate 2.30pm Psa: a modern day bubonic plague on kiwifruit 3.00pm What can plant biotechnology do for you? NZ NATIVE PLANTS (30 mins): Guided tours of NZ native plants in Old Government House grounds Times: 1.00, 2.15, 3.30 INTERACTIVE DISPLAYS INCLUDE: Freaky fruit Fascinating fungi Plant virus villains Eating plant DNA Vanilla: the posh spice Growing complete plants from single cells (Plus a quiz, with prizes) Fascination of Plants Day is an international initiative to bring to the attention of the general public the importance of plants to our environment and economy.
