Happy New to one and all, hoping that 2016 brings good health and happiness to each of

you.

Aside from Mays futurity CSCHC have hosted the first show of the new season and was a

successful show and judged by Craig Laird. Unfortunately C2CCHC cancelled their

December show, so Rosemary and Gordon Haultain hosted a training weekend at their place,

which was a lot of fun even though it was rather wet, good excuse to clean the saddlery.

Calling for AGM remits – time to start thinking about NZCHA rules & guidelines

(If you have ideas on how things can be made easier, safer, or completely revised don’t be shy to put in remits for the AGM. Only rules that would change our constitution are required to have remits, but it is a good process for amending or deleting any rule from the rule book, and AGM proxy votes can only be used for rules that have been advertised prior to the AGM).

At recent Council meeting the NZCHA was asked if there was a possibility for the Sth Island to host an NZCHA

South Island Futurity around November 2016. (Must be before December to be a Futurity). Therefore we are

calling for feedback from members. Would such a show be supported by North Island members with Futurity

aged horses, would all members support other events at such a show? Feedback can be emailed to NZCHA

Secretary, [email protected] and a decision will be finalised at the AGM 2016.

Items for the Sales Table at the Finals As a NZCHA Fundraiser, you are invited to bring along your unwanted horse related items to sell with

proceeds going to NZCHA.

These items all need to have price tags and name of seller (encase negotiations are required) attached and funds will go to NZCHA, apart from anything big like a saddle or a horse!!!! NZCHA will take 10% of

that sale.

Good chance to clean out tack sheds...Bits/ covers Saddle pads etc... Shirts, jeans, boots etc.

Should be fun!!!! Sale open for the duration of the show.

Nominations are now being called for, in the following categories:

HERITAGE HALL OF FAME – PEOPLE People who have made an outstanding contribution to cutting.

HERITAGE HALL OF FAME – HORSES Horses that have made an outstanding contribution to cutting. These may include mares or stallions whose progeny have

excelled.

How long have you been involved with horses? 30 years-God Im old ;( How did you get involved with cutting? Through working with Jenna (Frank) at the feedlot, she had just started and took me along to a training weekend. Who is you favourite horse and why (doesn’t have to be a cutting horse) of course it’s Ima and Chex!!!

How long have you been involved with Cutting? This is my second season hand down and I did a season of snaffle before that. The season before snaffle I mooched around on the outskirts trying to decide if I really wanted to sell my Irish hunter to buy a cutting horse- I did.....

Who do you consider to be your riding mentor/s and why? At the moment my biggest influences are Geoff and Janine Taylor and Gemma Williams-Gray. They have taught me an amazing amount and I am a far better rider for all their help. I will take this as a cheeky moment to acknowledge publically how much support these guys give to us "junior" (in experience not age haha) riders here in the south island. We would not have the amazing club we do without those 3!

What is your favourite food? Pretty much anything with heinz mayonnaise on it

What is your favourite drink? Coffee (or beer.....)

How do you think we can grow cutting in NZ? By encouraging more people to come along and have a go on whatever sort of horse they have- if they enjoy it hopefully in time they may want to continue on into hand down cutting.

How long have you been involved with horses?

I’ve been around horses all of my life, but I never did Pony club

or anything like that. My Family used to run the Christchurch

Polo Club so although we didn't have our own ponies as kids, we

used to ride some of the polo horses for other people now and

then, and then we were gifted an ex polo pony as our first horse,

so us kids shared her, until I saved up and brought my own horse

when I was 16.

How did you get involved with cutting?

I was lucky enough to graze my horses with Danielle Cummack for many

years in Christchurch. During that time, she got me into Western Showing,

and i was lucky enough to show a Little Doc Sug mare of hers- called Misdemeanor. She had been a cutting horse

previously, and after attending a few cutting shows as a spectator with Danny, they convinced me to ride her on a

cow one day at Shenley Station. Next show I was lucky enough to be offered a turn to cut on Moody Blues, and by

this stage, I was absolutely hooked!

Who is you favourite horse and why (doesn’t have to be a cutting horse)

My favourite horse to date, is my first Western Performance Horse and my first cutting horse, Fliss aka Riarmas

Impressive Player. A Lena's playboy mare. She had had some cutting training earlier in her career and then I

brought her to Western Show, although we ended up competing in Dressage and Jumping also. I was then lucky

enough to be able to learn to Snaffle bit cut on her, and then I rode her for one of my Rookie Years in cutting. She

was a turn her hand to anything type of horse, and she taught me so much.

How long have you been involved with Cutting?

The 2015/2016 is my fourth full Season of Competing.

Who do you consider to be your riding mentor/s and why?

Gosh I have many! When it comes to cutting, I have to say a mentor of mine would have to be a Non Pro Rider

from Australia- Amelia Servin. I just love how her horses go and how she rides them. They are all lovely and soft

on a cow and her horses are always consistent. I really enjoy watching her.

I also have a real love of Classical Dressage alongside of Western Riding, and there is a man by the name of Pedro

Torres, who is a World Champion Working Equitation Rider who is an absolute master! I follow a lot of his

training methods.

What is your favourite food? Mashed Potato!

What is your favourite drink? Wine! Red or White, I like it all!

How do you think we can grow cutting in NZ? Keep it simple :-)

How long have you been involved with Cutting? March 2007 I

bought my first cutting mare Cori and then went to an introductory clinic at Taupo.

Who do you consider to be your riding mentor/s and why? My first mentor was a wonderful women called

Betty Fendrup. Betty had lost her legs as a child, worked her own dairy farm, rode and bred registered ponies.

Gave me ponies to ride, taught me all about horses in my younger years, and I never set foot inside her cowshed.

I learnt that even with a disability, women can do anything

What is your favourite food? Apples

What is your favourite drink? Brandy

How do you think we can grow cutting in NZ? Exposure - continue with clinics and try to get newbies

involved, encourage the snaffle bit event more.
