“It’s a small but growing community of people who love the peace and quiet,”

Mr. Summers said. “I shed a little tear when I leave.“

“A house that disappears into the landscape.“

There is an abandoned Uruguayan village,

in which reside a few straggling descendants of industrial revolutionaries,

noisy feral dogs,

stray sheep and wild ponies

not to mention the odd rampant Armadillo -

all living in quiet simplicity,

yet existing alongside a level of aesthetic perfection

as well as gastronomic refinement and sophistication

known to very few throughout the world -

two extremes colliding

in an explosion of warmth and cheerful harmony

which we will not easily forget.

Pueblo Garzon

Pueblo Garzon is an unusual small town. Originally it was the first stop on the new railway line,

built by the British, c.1900 from Rocha through San Carlos all the way to Montevideo. The town

grew in the 20’s and the town square of 1 hectare bears witness to their ambitions.

Route 9, is still the main road to Brazil but it used, in those days, to pass conveniently through

Pueblo Garzon. Now it is 12 km away and the railways have long gone causing nearly everyone

to leave the town. But what we have inherited in Pueblo Garzon is the original appreciation

of a place that had good ‘energy’ for want of a better explanation and the superb trees they

planted, so many years ago. Francis Mallmann - the great Argentine/Uruguyan chef, - first

spotted it and his hotel, now 6 years old, is an oasis of charm and gastronomic excellence.

Casa Anna can be rented as a whole unit or as individual suites. We can arrange self catering

with maid service or all meals can be prepared by Francis Mallmann’s team from his Hotel

Garzon next door. There is superb horseback riding with Julio the local guide and amazing

opportunities for birdwatching. Or watch the stars from the observatory with a 10 inch Meade

computerised telescope. Yoga and massage are available and enjoy the delights of “Lucifer”,

the charming restaurant run by Lucia Soria.

In Casa Anna there is Wi-Fi throughout and a media room. In the evenings, the pool house

becomes a cinema with a big screen.
