T h e Vi l lage Board of Trus­t ees h a v e scheduled three public hearings o n t h e eve ­ning, o f Tuesday , Jan. 14, pro ­pos ing a m e n d m e n t s to the Sanitary a n d W a s t e Disposal Ordinance , Building Z o n e Ordinance a n d Traffic Ordi­nance, it w a s a n n o u n c e d this w e e k .

The first public hearing will be in reference to charging local contractors per load, ""at classified rates, tor depositing garbage, refuse and other waste materials, accumulated within village limits in the Village Dump at Waterfront Park. At the present time, the contractors are operating under yearly per­mits.

Under the new amendment as proposed, the Village Board will designate a village official, who will notify Village Clerk Mar­garet K. Glennon of Che contrac­tors using the dump and the village clerk will be authorized to bill the contractors for the use of the dump in three cate­gories. There will be a charge per load of $1.00 Cor pick-up trucks; 12.50 per load for tracks under five tons and $5.00 per load for trucks fire tons or over.

XMAS PLAY AT HIGH SCHOOL THIS EVENING

Nativity Scene To Be Shown; . Choruses Will Sing

The Dobbs Ferry High School wishes to anounce that it will hold its annual Christmas pro­gram Thursday evening, Dec. 19, in the high school auditorium. The program will feature the High School Hand High School Chorus, Junior High ChoruB, Boys' Glee Club, Girls' Glee and the Twirler Corps.

The High 8chool Band, direct"-ed by Charles W. Cameron, 'will open the program with the "Halleluah Chorus," from Han­del's "Messiah.* This will be fol­lowed by three songs by the Junoir High Chorus. Next on the program will be an informal gathering on the stage where the Boys' Glee Club, Girls' Glee Club and High School Chorus, all under the able direction of Donald B. Robinson, will enter­tain. Selections will Include "A Rockin' All Night," "The Sleigh," and the well known "Silver Bells.**

Following a short intermission, the band will open the second half of the show with a march, during which the Twirlers will entertain. Tne band will then

Roy Higgins Nets 28, John O'Connor, 21 To Face Ferrymen'* Attack

The Dobbs Ferry Eagles, long recognised as a basketball power in Westchester, got off to a fly­ing start at the expense of John Jay of Katonah. This was the Eagles' first game of the season under the fine direction of Bill Kohl, formerly from Trinity School.

The Eagles snowed that they are a well balanced team by having their first ten points con­tributed among the fire starters. However, Roy Higgins carried the bulk of the scoring in the first half, scoring 17 out of the Eagles' 84 points. Dobbs Ferry enjoyed a 34-23 lead at the half­way mark. John O'Connor in the first half pulled down a majority of the rebounds for Coach Kohl's hoopsters, the hustling of John Migliori was noticed by every­one, as Johnny; the smallest member of Kohl's starting five, managed to gather in vital re­bounds in the first half.

In the second half, George Graham appeared to have almost complete control of the boards. While George was taking in most of the rebounds, co-captain John O'Connor was popping in baskets from all angles. Roy Higgins and George Graham also were help­ing the Eagle cause in the scor­ing department,.

mind the birthday anniversaries of two of Dobbs Ferry's most distinguished residents, who will chalk up one more year of life on Christwas Day, Wednesday, Dec. 15.

They are the community's first Mayor, Warren D, Benedict of Estherwood Avenue, sad John H. Ravekes of 24» Broadway. £*>

Mr. Ravekes will mark hl» ninetieth birthday anniversary and Mr. Benedict will mark U s eightieth birthday on that day. Both men have rightfully earned the title of "old-timers! and both have contributed greajtly to the life of Dobbs Ferry in making it symbolise the country atmosphere cherished by all in the commun­

the first nfayor of Dobbs Ferry, served as 4 member of the Town Board' of Coumilmen for many years, has-been active in frater­nal organisations for many years, especially the Modern Woodmen of America, has been a Republi­can leader and since his retire­ment, has woted much of his t ime to horticulture.

Mr. Ravekes served on the Village Board of Assessors and has an enviable record as a civic and fraternal leader. He is the oldest living member of Diamond Lodge, No. 565, Free and Ac­cepted Masons, and is also a past master bf^the lodge, served as chaplain and secretary.

Candlelight Choral Service On Sunday; Mrs. Latzko To Sing

The Summerfield Methodist Church will hold its traditional Candlelight Choral Service on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 22, at four forty-five o'clock, it was announced today by the Rev. Ross W. M. Holland, minister.

The program will open with the singing of five Christmas Carols and singing in The Cantata by J. S. Bach entitled "Walk in the Way of Faith" will be Marjorie Latzko, soprano; Warren Goodell, bass; Katharine Horner, alto recorder and Andrew Fitzgerald, oboe.

Marjorie Latzko will' sing the offertory "She will bear a son." Traditional French Carols, ar-rang6d by Gaul, will then be sung and the Candlelighting Ceremony will be held with the Recessional Hymn "O Little Town of Bethle­hem" and the Choral Response "Silent Night" by Gruber.

Thirty Dolls Will Be LFiBUsntrcea rfiouusay To Young Children

Laden with gifts, Mrs. Jane Mytinger, Community Service Chairman of the Dobbs Ferry Girl Scouts, will visit the chil­dren's hospital at Grasslands next Monday.

Among the items contributed will be dolls for thirty of the children, specially dressed by members of Troop 45. Bean bags for all the children have been a project of the girls of Troop 46.

Handmade cloth picture books, made by themselves, are being s e nt by Mrs. Eisenhauer's Brownie troop.

Attractive little doll cradles, made by Troop 34 will be pre­sented to the children at Irving-ton House.

On Christmas day, small pati ents at Dobbs Ferry Hospital will receive stockings filled with fav­ors, and bright containers of can-day, prepared for them by the girls of Troop 48.

On Christmas eve, senior scouts, led by Mrs. Ruth Grote, will travel around the village sing­ing Christmas carols.

William C. Connor, New Chairman; Other Officers Elected

The first meeting of the Dobbs Ferry non-partisan nominating committee for the selection of school board candidates was held Wednesday evening at the high school.

The meeting was opened by Raymond Ruble, retiring chair­man. Mr. Ruble gave a brief ac­count of the purpose and func­tion of the committee for the benefit of new members and then turned the meeting over to the newly-elected chairman, "William C, Conner.

The committee elected Manson Jennings for the office of vice-chairman, William O. Beckman for secretary-treasurer, and Mrs. yioyd F. McDowell for publicity.

Holdover 1957-58 members of this committee are William O. Beckman representing the Ameri­can Legion, Mrs. David W. Clever-Jen, representing the Home am School Association, William C.
