New York Kappa Quarterly
Summer 2013
Updates from the Execu?ve Board Ed Drantch, President
It’s been a very busy few months for the House Corpora?on, as we get ready for summer and the year ahead. As you may have (or may not have) heard, the house had a recent mice issue. The undergrads came back from break to find ‘droppings’ in the kitchen and in the basement. While it may have been alarming for the tenants, we worked to mi?gate the problem in the most cost effec?ve way. We hired Orkin exterminators and have not had much of an issue since. Addi?onally, we helped the undergrads deal with the Special Use Permit and all that goes along with it. Inspec?ons came along and while the house was cited for some cosme?c issues, they all have been, or will be handled. As you can recall, last summer we installed new carpe?ng on the first and second floors. This summer we’re focusing on the kitchen and bathroom on the first floor. We’re also geWng an addi?onal washer and dryer installed, from MacGray, to help keep things moving and in working order for the undergrads. We have nine brothers living in the house next year, aZer raising rent six percent. We’re expec?ng to lease the other room at some point during the year, as we have for the last two years. I’m looking forward to another successful year with this new and improved board.
Rocco Matra, Vice President Right now I am currently working on plans for renova?ng the kitchen/pantry area of the house. We are looking into several different op?ons so that we can produce the highest quality space to fulfill it’s purpose, while be aware of how much we are spending.
Updates from the Execu?ve Board David Lucas, Vice President
My role will be changing slightly from the years past. I will be serving more as a liaison between the House Corpora?on and the Undergraduate members. Work on the quarterly newsle^er, as well as the Annual Alumni/Founders Weekend, will con?nue. Alongside that, I will also be picking up a new ini?a?ve that the board will be introducing, as well.
Bryant Strozinsky, Secretary As the keeper of the House Corpora?on minutes, archives, and overall documenta?on, I have been working on taking care of that. I am keeping the Strategic Plan updated while we move forward with adding and comple?ng tasks on it, as well as upda?ng the Google account and archiving old materials to increase our efficiency. I also, at some point, plan to create a master vendor list and also a list of what the House Corp. is responsible for paying for in terms of the house and what tenants are responsible for (i.e. cleaning services, vermin, things that break, inspec?ons, etc.).
Steve Hunsberger, Treasurer A lot of my responsibili?es thus far have included preparing for and filing taxes by the May 15th deadline, as well as working with the rest of the board to see what money we have available for house improvements.
