Fine Arts Department Outcomes Assessment Report for BFA programs in Computer Graphics and in

Graphic Design as well as for MFA programs in Computer Graphics Animation, Graphic Design, Art and

Technology.

BFA in Computer Graphics, 128 credit program:

Upon graduation our students wil l have created a 3D animation demo reel portfol io which they wil l be

able to continue to upgrade in preparation for entry level posit ions in the animation production

industry. They wil l have acquired ski l l sets in design fundamentals, art history, art theory and standard

production methods necessary to function in the f ield of creative visualization and communication.

Students wil l gain functional competence with principles of visual organization, including the abil i ty to

work with visual elements in two and three dimensions; color theory and its applications; and drawing,

Students wil l be able to present work that demonstrates perceptual acuity, conceptual understanding

and technical faci l i ty.

Students wil l be able to place works of art and design in historical, cultural, and styl ist ic contexts.

Students wil l be able to use the language of art and design effectively to identify the necessary elements

in cri t ical ly analyzing the work being reviewed,

Students wil l also be able to demonstrate abil i ty as well as a working knowledge of technologies and

equipment applicable to the animation creation pipeline including: drawing, digital character and stage

model ing, an imat ing, composi t ing and render ing.

BFA in Graphic Design, 128 credit program:

Upon graduat ion our students wi l l have created a professional graphic design port fol io which they wi l l

be able to cont inue to upgrade in preparat ion for entry level posi t ions in the graphic design industry

with a focus in the pr int and web markets. They wi l l have acquired ski l l sets in design fundamentals, art

history, art theory and standard production methods necessary to function in the f ield of creative designand communicat ion.

Students wil l gain functional competence with principles of visual organization, including the abil i ty towork with visual elements in two and three dimensions; color theory and its applications; and drawing.

Students wil l be able to present work that demonstrates perceptual acuity, conceptual understandingand technical faci l i ty.

Students wil l be able to place works of art and design in historical, cultural, and styl ist ic contexts.

Students wil l be able to develop and create visual form in response to communication problems

including an understanding of composit ion, information hierarchy, symbolic representation, aestheticsand the construction of meaningful images.

Students wil l be able to be proficient with the applications and technology, including their roles in thecreation, reproduction, and distr ibution of visual messages,

Students wil l be able to demonstrate a ski l l set in relevant applications including but not l imited to:drawing, typography, i l lustration, editorial design, package design and book design.

MFA in Computer Animation, 64 credit program:

Upon graduation our students wil l have created an original thesis and project in the discipl ine ofcomputer animation in preparation to work in the production industry bringing an advanced set of ski l land abil i ty above the entry level posit ion requirements.

Students wil l also be able to pursue a college level teaching assignment at the assistant professor rankdue to the classif ication of the MFA as a terminal degree.

Students wil l be able to individually develop and produce unique animations which incorporate concept,character development, storyboarding, audio, and al lareas related to professionalproduction practices.

MFA in Graphic Design, 64 credit program:

Upon graduation our students wil l have created an original thesis and project in the discipl ine of graphicdesign in preparation to work in the design industry bringing an advanced set of ski l l and abil i ty abovethe entry level posit ion requirements.

Students wil l also be able to pursue a college level teaching assignment at the assistant professor rank

due to the classif ication of the M FA as a terminal degree'

Students wil l be able to individually produce graphic design projects that incorporate concept, design

development, communication and interactivity.

MFA in Art and Technology, 64 credit program:

Upon graduation our students wil l have created an original thesis and project in the discipl ine of art and

technology in preparation to exhibit personal works of art in galleries, museums and in cyber galleries.

With emphasis on a design aesthetic, original works may take the form of digital sculpture, screen art ,

installations, site specific and cyber interactive as well as new forms'

Students will also be able to pursue a college level teaching assignment at the assistant professor rank

due to the classif ication of the MFA as a terminal degree'

Students wil l be able to individually produce projects that investigate innovative and emerging

technologies in the creation of new art forms.
