The New World Flamenco Festival at Irvine Barclay Theatre has fostered an idea that is being noticed around the world – flamenco has a stylistic variety and many points of view, as rich as anything found in any other art form.

Since its inception in 2001, the Festival has strived to demonstrate to American audiences that the relevant artists are not simply the two or three most widely recognized flamenco companies, but include a range of dancers and musicians who represent either the next wave of talent, or who are tried and true believers in the roots of traditional flamenco.

Yaelisa, the Festival’s artistic director, takes audiences on a quest to discover flamenco as she sees it, with a rich and diverse history, helping audiences to discover the beauty of the bata de cola, the energy of Gypsy tribal flamenco, the meaning and significance of flamenco dynasties, the differences between flamenco in Cádiz or Sevilla, or to take a moment to look at young talent hitting its stride.

Come along as the New World Flamenco Festival presents three programs exploring different aspects of flamenco.

FLAMENCO ABIERTOAPRIL 24-25 AT 6:30PM & 8:45PM

An “eye-opening” flamenco experience. Yaelisa, dancer and artistic director of the Festival, and a dozen of California’s recognized flamencos will host

our guests in an interactive evening of flamenco and general merriment.

Come on in! Abierto is a kind of moveable feast... be prepared to mingle and walk through the various spaces, and stand for informal presentations.

We start in the lobby with a Spanish cocktail party vibe and then move to the stage for an intimate performance. Finally, backstage to the bar area

for more mingling and where all of the artists form a circle and create a real “juerga,” giving our guests an idea of how flamenco artists and aficionados

gather and share what they love.

Tickets: $27 general admissionno reserved seating

A backstage, onstage, mix-it-up featuring some of California’s
