"I, Oliver Herbert have chosen to set up the Oliver Herbert Award as a platform for artists to display their work in a setting liberated from the political and cultural confines of their own countries and backgrounds. Each artist, will receive a cash prize for their efforts, this varies according to the prize which they are awarded. The first prize being the sum of £400 and the chance to work as my assistant for the coming year in my London studio.

The Oliver Herbert Award is a forum for selected artists to show work in a prestigious event here in the UK . However each artist must follow some simple rules of submission. Their names and identities must be concealed and their country of origin not revealed. All artists who submit work to the Oliver Herbert award do so in agreement that all works become the intellectual property of the Oliver Herbert Awards company.

I would like to thank you for attending the Oliver Herbert Award 07 exhibition and I hope you enjoy the show. "

NEW WORK SCOTLAND PROGRAMME 2007SELECTORS: Charles Esche, Director of the Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, Kit Hammonds (Curator of the South London Gallery), Helen Legg (Off-Site Curator at Ikon Gallery, Birmingham), Matt Stokes (artist and winner of Beck's Futures 2006) and Chair, Sarah Munro (Collective's Director).

The New Work Scotland Programme (NWSP) is a major initiative launched by Collective in 2000. The NWSP identifies and supports, through a policy of open application, some of the most promising new artists working in Scotland - providing them with the opportunity to create new work and bring it to the attention of a wider public. Eligibility is for artists in either their final year (undergraduate or postgraduate) at a Scottish art college or those Scottish based artists who are up to three years out of college. Priority is given to those who have not previously had a major solo show. NWSP lies at the heart of Collective's Professional Development Programme and creates a dedicated three month period for the support and development of new artists in Scotland through both exhibiting, writing and event opportunities.

Still to come in this year's programme are performative projects from Tessa Lynch and Andy Wake (Tue 6 -Sat 17 Nov) and a solo exhibition by Jason Nelson (Sat 24 Nov - Sat 22 Dec). 2007 sees each of the artists utilising both galleries to fully demonstrate the breadth of their practice and are supported by a commissioning fee - which is vital at such an early stage in their career.
