Measures of Academic Progress● The Measures of Academic Progress test (MAP-test) measures a
student’s academic growth.● This year all students in the county will take the test to gather baseline
information on academic growth in Math (MAP-M) and Reading (MAP-R).
● Within a few days of the test students will be access their results to the test. The two links below provides detailed information about the test and the report.

MAP Testing overall● ALL students in MCPS schools will take the MAP-R and
MAP-M test this school year. ● The good news is middle school students have taken this
test before! ● The only difference is, students will take the test remotely
on their device (Chromebook, Ipad, etc.) at home.
Why this test is important?!We would like to know how our students are doing and learning in school. The test will assist us with planning out lessons and provide guidance on how we, as a school, can help in your child’s academic growth.
REMEMBER!
This is a test to measure your child’s growth as a student. They should work to the best of their ability and try to finish the test as best they can.
The test is adaptive. This means that the more answers a student gets correct the more difficult the test will get.

Important Information● Students will take the MAP-R Reading test on September 22,
2020.● Students will take the MAP-M Math test on September 25,
2020.● Most of the testing will take place during students’ HERD
advisory period. ● Testing sessions will not be recorded.● Students must have your camera on during the test so
proctors can see them.
● Make-ups will be given during the week...but students should
make every effort to take the test on the designated day.

How can students prepare for success on the test?There are several things students can do to prepare for the test:
1. Students should take a few of the practice tests.2. The night before your child takes the test make sure they get adequate
sleep3. Make sure your technology works by taking the “Device Check” in this
presentation.
Prepare to be successful on test day!● Students should be on time to their assigned HERD or Zoom
session● Find a place to work with minimal distractions.● Make sure their camera is on and mic is off when entering the
Zoom.● Listen to the directions that their teacher gives them for the test
and WAIT for the teacher to start the session.● If they have a question they raise their hand so their teacher can
see them. Teachers will follow up with what to do next. ● If they experience technical difficulties- DO NOT panic, please use
the troubleshooting information or let their teacher know to assist you.

Does your Chromebook Monitor have the correct resolution?
Sometimes when taking the test, you may experience an error message for your Chromebook monitor resolution. Follow the steps below if this occurs:
Change Screen Resolution : Shift + Ctrl and + (plus) or - (minus)
Reset Screen Resolution to Change Screen Resolution: Shift + Ctrl and + (plus) or - (minus)
Reset Screen Resolution: to default Shift + Ctrl + Ctrl + 0

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES THE DAY OF THE TESTIf your child experiences technical difficulties the day of the test:
● They should first reach out to their proctor teacher by raising their hand or typing in the Zoom chat.
● It is highly recommended to go through the steps in this presentation prior to test day to ensure your child is “test ready.” Prior to the day of the test if you are unable to sign on please call the school or email [email protected]
