New waste collection vehicles are nearly here...Food waste, textiles and small electrical items will all be collected weekly. Your new service will start in June.

www.spelthorne.gov.uk/[email protected] 01784 451499

In the week beginning 12 June, we will start collecting your unwanted textiles and small electrical items at the same time as your food waste. 3 services in 1 - weekly!

Put your rubbish/recycling bin out on your normal collection day from this week but remember you will now also be able to put out textiles and small electricals weekly.

Food waste, textiles and electricals will all be collected weekly by the new 3 in 1 vehicles - look out for them travelling around Spelthorne.

Weekly Food waste collection - 3 services in 1

The food waste collection service continues weekly as before and included with this leaflet is a ‘starter’ roll of plastic food waste liners for you to use. Thereafter, you can use pedal bin liners or reuse bread bags, salad bags and plastic carrier bags (or line your caddy with newspaper).

If you need a new food waste caddy, please collect one from the Council Offices or one of our community centres*. If you are unable to get to one of our collection points, please visit our website.

If your property does not currently have food waste collections and you would like us to introduce the service to your property, please contact us.

Weekly textiles and small electricals - 3 services in 1

Textiles and small electrical items should be put in separate bags, tied and left next to your food waste caddy. You can use clear bags or carrier bags (not black sacks) and label with ‘textiles’ or ‘electricals’ if possible. Please do not mix textiles and electricals in the same bag. A proportion of the funds raised from the textile collection will be donated to local charities.

Clear plastic bags for textiles and small electricals are available to collect free from the Council Offices and our Community Centres *.

Textiles (clothing, linen, paired shoes etc) can be in any condition eg with holes or stains, but should be clean (i.e. not soiled!). No duvets, pillows or rugs please.

Small Electricals can be in any condition (broken is fine) but must be small enough to be bagged. Please remove batteries and bulbs first if possible. No large items such as microwaves or TVs please (these should be taken to Charlton Lane** or visit www.spelthorne.gov.uk/bulky to arrange a collection).

Recycling and Rubbish Collections

There is no change to your recycling and rubbish collections - they will continue to be collected on alternate weeks but your food waste, textiles and small electricals will be collected weekly. You will notice two different collection vehicles at different times of the day.

Please make sure all waste containers and bags are kerbside by 6am and allow until 4pm for all your items to be collected.

Bin collection day for the majority of residents will remain unchanged. However, a few residents will have a change in collection day and if you are one of those residents you will have received a letter explaining this already.

You can check which day your collection is by visiting www.spelthorne.gov.uk and typing your postcode into ‘My Spelthorne’. * Collection points for food waste caddies and textile/electrical clear plastic bags: Council Offices, Knowle Green, TW18 1XB.Community Centres in Ashford, Shepperton, Staines-upon-Thames and Sunbury. Visit www.spelthorne.gov.uk/communitycentres for their exact locations.
