Mathematics: Survey & Report by Maria Constandinou MTH 1102-3 Statistics and Probability All that is needed to create and distribute a survey in order to prepare a scientific report can be found here. Understanding Robomow by Laura Gauthier MTH 2102-3 Geometric Representations and Transformations In this project students are asked to program a simulation of the Robomow, a robotic lawnmower, using the software program Scratch. Through experimentation, students will be brought to reflect on directed movement (translation, rotation) and the way in which some technology works (ex. If … Then). Data Correlation by James Thyer Statistics Interested in discovering whether or not there is a correlation between student attendance and level of achievement? This project provides you with a “How to” section as well as an example and a blank file so that you can plug in your data and see for yourself! There is also a section of supplementary ideas providing other data that may be correlated using the tool.

  • Payback by Laura GauthierMTH 2101-3 Algebraic Modelling Students will model, using algebra, two annual income scenarios: one where they leave school to work at their present job, and one where they stay in school (making no money) to pursue the higher paying career of their choice. Students will then compare these models to answer the question: How long before I see payback for my schooling?

Students will develop algebraic models, broaden their understanding of relationships between quantities and validate their choice to complete their own schooling. The project will also provide the students with an opportunity to investigate the income potential of careers which interest them.

How Much Would it Cost to Paint This Classroom?by Robert More MTH 2101-3 Algebraic ModellingIn this project you will learn about measurements, both Metric and Imperial. You will also learn how to measure with a couple of tools, and how to measure a ceiling from the ground. You may need to review fractions as well. You will create a scale drawing of your room, both on paper and using a computer aided design program. You will use mathematical formulas to calculate the total surface area. Finally you will calculate the cost of painting the room, remembering that different paints have different coverage rates.
