Publication Date: August 2016 Description:
A child’s-eye memoir of growing up in Derry as the Troubles began from one of the key campaigners for acknowledgment of the ‘Bloody Sunday’ atrocity.
This Man’s Wee Boy
A uniquely-crafted memoir of the author’s early childhood (1967–1972), the third oldest in a working-class Catholic family from the Brandywell in Derry. Written with the authentic voice of a child, this snapshot of his young life unfolds in a series of stories evoking the innocence of childhood, family dynamic and tensions, street friendships and characters, the onset of civil strife, and a family protecting itself from conflict, with CS gas coming in through the door and tracer bullets flying past the windows. The book centres on Tony’s father, Patrick – a legend in his son’s eyes and a man who struggles to raise a family through bitter years of economic inactivity. It beautifully and movingly portrays the relationship between Tony and the father he adores, yet slightly fears, as events, both within the family and on the streets, unfold and fuse together. The burgeoning chaos of conflict finds its way into his life through the death of a friend under an army truck and more horrifically, directly into the Doherty household of 15 Hamilton Street. Described as ‘a treasure’, the book draws the reader into a child’s world, his innocent view of the harsh reality of life and the horrifying events unfolding around him. It has bags of humour and paints a picture of a lost world of children running wild in play, unsupervised by or worried over by adults.

The dramatic stories of Irishmen from all over the island who served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War.
Ireland’s Aviator Heroes of World War II
‘Ireland’s Aviator Heroes of World War II’ celebrates Irish aviators who served in the Royal Air Force during the dark days of the Second World War. Individual stories have been painstakingly and extensively researched through interviews with the surviving subjects and their families, and using the original log books and service records of the men. Many of the stories contain details of the individuals’ participation in important wartime campaigns, although others are limited to war service records due to a lack of surviving information.
Above all this book celebrates the great courage and sacrifice demonstrated by these Irishmen during their contribution to the Allied war effort against Nazi Germany, her western allies and Japan. Many of the men included paid the ultimate price for their participation. The book is also well illustrated with many photographs, some taken by the subjects themselves.

The story of how Coolmore Stud and its training operation at Ballydoyle have come to dominate the world of horse breeding and racing.
Coolmore Stud:Ireland’s Greatest Sporting Success Story
Nestled in a quiet part of County Tipperary, Coolmore Stud casts as long a shadow as any sporting entity over the history of Irish sport. Founded by the legendary horse trainer Vincent O’Brien, and now managed by John Magnier, Coolmore Stud has grown from a small breeding farm into a global behemoth, renowned the world over for the quality of the horses it produces.
Alan Conway tells the story of how Coolmore Stud and its training operation at Ballydoyle have come to dominate the world of horse breeding and racing. Using the stories of the people involved, including the formation of the legendary Syndicate of Magnier, O’Brien and Robert Sangster, and of the famous horses it has produced, such as the legendary Sadler’s Wells, his sons Galileo and Montjeu, and the mighty Danehill, this book charts the rise of one of Ireland’s greatest sporting success stories.
