PORTSMOUTH’S GREAT CAKESPEARE BAKE-OFF As part of the celebrations to mark Shakespeare’s birthday and deathday on 23 April 2016 the New Theatre Royal with the University of Portsmouth are inviting you to ‘Get Your Bake On!’. This will be part of the citywide festival ‘Much Ado about Portsmouth’. We want you to be stimulated by the words of Shakespeare in your kitchen and classes and create fabulous showstoppers inspired by a quote. This can be in the form of cakes, breads, biscuits and pies! For example... As You Like It: Act 3, Scene 2 Truly, thou art damned like an ill roasted egg, all on one saide. Twelfth Night: Act 2, Scene 3 Do you think because you are virtuous, that there shall be no more cakes and ale? Romeo and Juliet: Act 4, Scene 4 They call for dates and quinces in the pastry. All ages and abilities can be involved and we welcome entries from classes, groups and families or individuals. There are 4 different categories: 18 and over Under 18 Under 10 Mixed Aged Groups / Families / Community Groups There is a small entry fee for participation. Free for Under 10’s, £2.50 for Under 18’s and £5 for 18 and over. For all group entries there will be a £5 fee. To get your group, school or family involved send your completed entry form with the picture of your bake and Shakespearean quote to: [email protected] The deadline for entries will be on Friday 26 th February 2016 You will be judged on; Creativity, Interpretation of Quote, Appearance and Taste (during the Semi-Final). You will be judged on; Creativity, Interpretation of Quote, Appearance and Taste (during the Semi-Final). Semi-Finals will take place on Thursday 24th March at New Theatre Royal. The Grand Final will take place on 20th April where you will bake your creation in Highbury College Kitchen under ‘Bake Off’ conditions (minus tent!)!

The winner will receive prizes from sponsors and the acclaim to call themselves ‘The Great CakeSpeare Bake-Off Champion!’
