Once again, we are very pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 NETSA Scholarships. Due to the tremendous support of the NETSA membership, we have been able to increase the number of scholarships again this year from ten in 2011 to eleven in 2012. Four of the recipients were profiled in our Fall Road Runner and the remaining seven recipients are featured in our Winter issue of the Road Runner. As you may know, each of the awards is for $2000. Half of this is donated by our individual sponsors and the other half comes from the funds raised through membership participation in the NETSA Scholarship Golf Tournament in the Fall, and the NETSA Trade Show Scholarship Auction conducted at the Hall of Fame Awards Dinner in the Spring. Our heartfelt thanks to all who participated in this extremely worthwhile endeavor. Finally, I would like to express our gratitude to our sponsors, without whom this would not be possible. They are – the Connecticut Tire Dealers Assn., Haley’s Tire & Service Centers, Maynard & Lesieur, Melvin’s Tire Pros, Mohawk Rubber Sales, Nokian Tyres, Pete’s Tire Barns, Sullivan Tire, Tom Lyon’s Tire and Wells Fargo Special Risks. Congratulations to the winners and to the proud parents who have contributed so much to their success.

Message from the Executive Director

Cole’sColumn

NETSA’s Hall of Fame Committee - Chaired by Jim Melvin Jr, wants to alert all NETSA mem-

bers that they must nominate any person they feel is deserving of this award, to the Committee by Decem-ber 31, 2012. Simply email NETSA or write us with your nomination and Biography of the nominee. The Committee will then investigate the eligibility of the nominees and bring their names before the full NETSA Board for a vote at their January Board Meeting.

The Criteria & Requirements to be considered as a nominee are:

1) Must have been active in the Tire and/or Vehicle Service Industry in New England for at least 20 years.2) Must have distinguished him or herself in our Industry and Community as a reputable and honored Leader.

See the full criteria on our website www.netsa.org

Our Trade Show Committee - Chaired by Rich Tuttle, has announced the dates of April 12 & 13, 2013 for this year’s Trade Show & Convention, to be held at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT. Last year’s show was another success with a 20,000 sq. foot display area filled by 49 Exhibitors (112 booths) and atten-dance of 722 people. Rich promises another infor-mational and fun event in 2013 with the new Friday/ Saturday schedule that was such a success in 2011 & 2012. We’ll be mailing out more detailed information to all of you about the April 2013 event, in February 2013. Our Scholarship Committee – Chaired by Tom Fer-guson, announced our Eleven 2012 Scholarship Win-ners in our Fall issue of the Road Runner. We featured four of those eleven in that issue, and are featuring the other seven winners in this issue of the Road Runner.

We are thrilled to have been able to give out $22,000 in scholarships in 2012. Congratulations to all the recipients.

Our Benefits Committee – Chaired by Jack Kelley, met on 9/11/12 to hear presentations from four Com-panies interested in being a NETSA Benefits Provider or expanding their benefit offerings. The committee then recommended to the full Board, Merchant Part-ners and Casings Inc, who are now our newest NETSA Benefits Providers. Please look at our Benefits page, in this issue, to help you save money. Many members are reporting that they are saving $6,000 or more each year by using these NETSA benefits.

Our Legislative Committee - Chaired by Stan Morin, is so pleased that the Right to Repair effort in Mas-sachusetts was signed into Law by Governor Patrick on August 7, 2012. A similar Right to Repair question (which was too late for the ballot measure to be re-moved) was also passed in the November 6, 2012 elec-tion by 85% of the citizens of Massachusetts. NETSA is an active member of the Coalition that brought about this Law and will continue to be involved in the imple-mentation of Right to Repair.

Our NETSA Membership - Chaired by Dale Franklin, has grown this year (2012) to another record of 503 paid members. We are very appreciative to all of you who are members during this tough economy, and our Board is continually striving to ensure your value in be-ing a NETSA Member. We’ve sent out our 2013 Dues invoices, and encourage you to send in your payment if you haven’t already done so.

I now want to depart somewhat from my usual column to make some personal comments. Hurricane Sandy affected so many people and was very devastating to many of you. Other events in Washington D.C. are also weighing heavy on many of us. This is however, the Holiday Season, and I’m reminded of how much we have to be thankful for. I choose to put the negative thoughts behind me and thank the Lord for His bless-ings. I Wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Joyous Holiday Season.
