2 Introduction

In this game, you control Mario™ inhis quest to rescue PrincessPeach™. Mario will need all his skillsto overcome both obstacles andenemies as he makes his waythrough each world. For an addedchallenge, try to collect as manycoins as you can along the way!

New Super Mario Bros. 2: GoldEdition includes course packs 1-10, which were previously onlyavailable for separate purchase.

3 Main Menu

Configure controls and theSpotPass™ feature settings(page 19).

Options

Play three randomly selectedcourses back-to-back, collecting asmany coins as you can. You canexchange Coin Rush records withother players via the StreetPass™feature.

Coin Rush (pages 16-17)

Team up with another player viaLocal Wireless.

Co-op Play (page 15)

Solo Play

◆ represents the total numberof coins you've collected whileplaying this game (page 14).

Use / to select anoption, then press to confirm.Press to go back astep.

4 Save Files

Delete All Save DataTo delete all save data, wait forthe Nintendo 3DS logo todisappear after launching thegame, then press and hold +++.

Delete the selected save file.

DeleteCopy the selected save file.

Copy

To start from thebeginning, selectNew Game. Tocontinue from a savedgame, select theappropriate save file.

Warning: Deleted data cannot berecovered.

5 Saving Data

◆ Data received via SpotPass (page19) will be saved to the SD Card.

Data will be saved automaticallywhen it is received.

StreetPassSpotPass

◆ Coins collected by Mario™ andLuigi™ are added to the TotalCoin tally and savedautomatically.

In Co-op Play, the player controllingMario can save the game by usingthe same methods as Solo Play.

Co-op Play

Only additions to Total Coins willbe saved. Game progress, lives,items (page 12), etc., will not besaved.

For Luigi Players

This game saves your progress atdifferent points depending on thegame mode.

Select Quick Save from the pausemenu on the map screen (page 11)to temporarily save your progressand end the game.

Quick Save

● This save data will be deletedafter restarting your game.

● After completing the game, youcan save whenever you like.

◆ After completing the game, youwill be able to save on the mapscreen whenever you want.

You can save your progress whenyou clear a tower or castle or whenspending Star Coins to open a newroute (page 11).

Solo Play

● Data can be lost due to useraction, such as repeatedlypowering off and on thesystem or removing the GameCard or SD Card while saving.Data loss may also be causedby poor connectivity, due todirt or dust in the system'sports. Please be aware that inthese cases data cannot berestored.

6 Internet

Nintendo Network is the name ofNintendo’s network service thatenables users to enj oy gamesand other content via theInternet.

This software supports NintendoNetwork.

● To protect your privacy, do notgive out personal information,such as last name, phone number,birth date, age, school, e-mail, orhome address whencommunicating with others.

● Friend codes are a part of asystem that allows you to playwith people you know. If youexchange friend codes withstrangers, there is a risk youcould share information withpeople you do not know orexchange messages that containoffensive language. We thereforerecommend that you do not giveyour friend codes to people youdon't know.

Protecting Your Privacy

◆ Refer to your Operations Manualfor information about connectingyour system to the Internet.

This software supports receivinggameplay data and notificationsvia SpotPass (page 19).

13 How to Play

Defeat enemies and overcomeobstacles as you make your way tothe goal.

Checkpoint FlagTouch this flag to start at thispoint if Mario loses a life.

・If you play another course andthen return to this course, you'llhave to start from the beginning.

・If Small Mario touches aCheckpoint Flag, he will transforminto Super Mario.

GoalGrab the Goal Pole tocomplete the course. Thehigher Mario grabs on thepole, the more points you'llearn.

Game OverIf Mario loses all of his lives, it'sgame over. You can then restart withfive lives from your last save point.

If Mario loses five lives inthe same course, an AssistBlock will appear. Hit it torelease an Invincibility Leafand transform into WhiteRaccoon Mario.

CoinCollect 100 to earn an extralife.

Super StarWill make Mario invincible fora short time and will increasehis dash speed.

Star CoinEvery course contains threeof these. Once collected,they can be used to opennew paths on the mapscreen.

1-Up MushroomEarns Mario an extra life.

10-Coin BlockLooks like a normal block,but it produces coins whenhit.◆ If you hit this after it has

produced 10 or morecoins, it will turn into aGold Block.

Gold RingIf you touch this, all of theenemies in the course willturn gold for a short time.Gold enemies will producegold coins in various ways.

Gold BlockWhile wearing this, Mario willearn coins just by runningand jumping!◆ The block will disappear

after producing a certainnumber of coins, or if youare hit by an enemy.

Red POW BlockHit this to unleash ashockwave that destroysnearby blocks.

There are other items and coursefeatures not detailed here.

Red RingIf you touch this, eight redcoins ( ) will appear.If you collect all of the redcoins within the time limit, anitem will appear.

Switch BlockIf you step on it, variousenvironmental changes willoccur.

15 Co-op Play

This software supports multiplayergames via wireless communication.Using this feature, you can team upwith a friend to play through thegame as Mario and Luigi! Co-opPlay is a great way to collect coins,so try to work together to collect asmany as possible.

❶ One player shouldselect Mario, andthe other playershould select Luigi.Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed.

❷ The player who chooses Mariothen selects a course to begin.

Course Screen

The player marked with is theleader. If you stray too far from theleader, you'll enter a bubble.

Co-op Play (Local Play)

Touch this to enter a bubble.

Bubble

Leader ( )

The game camerafollows the leader. Ifthe leader makes ablunder, is hit by aground pound, or is precededby the other player through apipe or door, the other playerbecomes the leader.

BubbleWhile in a bubble, Mario orLuigi will not take damage.Keep pressing buttons tofloat toward your partner.You must touch the other player topop the bubble and get back in theaction.

Even if you make a blunder, youwon't lose a life as long as oneplayer remains in the course. Theplayer who made a blunder willreenter the course in a bubble.Making blunders in the followingsituations will return you to the mapscreen:

Losing Lives

・Both players make a blunder atthe same time

・One player makes a blunder whilethe other is in a bubble

If both players enter a bubble at thesame time, you will be returned tothe map screen without losing a life.

16 Coin Rush

This software uses StreetPass (localwireless communication) forexchanging Coin Rush records withother players.In Coin Rush mode, you'll playthrough three randomly selectedcourses back-to-back whilecollecting as many coins aspossible.At the end of your Coin Rush run,your coin record will be saved.These records can be shared withother players via StreetPass andchallenged to determine who's thebetter coin collector.

Activating StreetPass

◆ Select to activate StreetPassfor New Super Mario Bros. 2:Gold Edition. If this icon is notpresent, StreetPass has alreadybeen activated for this game.

Once you'vecleared World 1 inthe main game,select Coin Rushfrom the mainmenu. At thispoint, you'll be prompted to activateStreetPass. Once StreetPass hasbeen activated, you can select StartCoin Rush to start playing. SelectStreetPass Records (page 17) toaccess data that has been receivedfrom other players via StreetPass.

Coin Rush (StreetPass™)

To communicate using this feature,all players must activate theStreetPass feature for this software.

・Play three randomly selectedcourses from worlds that you'vecleared in the main game.

・The three courses must becompleted consecutively. If youlose a life, you will move on to thenext course (your coins will becarried over).

・The time limit is shorter than inSolo Play and Co-op Play.

・Touch a Checkpoint Flag, or graba time bonus to increase yourremaining time.

Coin Rush Rules:

Sharing RecordsSelect Save ThisRecord to set thisrecord for sharingwith other playersvia StreetPass.

◆ You can only set one record forsharing at a time.

◆ To exchange records, the otherplayer must also have StreetPassactivated.

17 StreetPass Records

Touch a Mii™ character icon to seeinformation about them and therecords they are sharing. Press tochallenge a record or add it to yourfavorites.

If you clear the courses whenchallenging another player'srecord, you'll be able to viewthat player's Mii information andrecord details.

If you collect more coins thanthe person you are challenging,you will receive a Crown Coin

You can challenge Coin Rushrecords received from other playersvia StreetPass. Complete the sameset of courses in the time allowed,and attempt to surpass their cointotal!

● Records you receive caninclude courses you have notyet played.

● You can keep up to 15 rivalrecords at a time. Saving anymore than this will cause olderrecords to be replaced.

View your own record, orchallenge it to see if you can dobetter!

To deactivate StreetPass, open theSystem Settings, select DataManagement, and then selectStreetPass Management. Tap theicon for this software title, thenselect Deactivate StreetPass.

19 Data and Notifications

● Data received throughSpotPass is saved on SDCards. As a result, it isrecommended that you keepan SD Card inserted in yoursystem at all times.

Activating SpotPassThe game will prompt you toactivate SpotPass the first time youstart the game. SpotPass can bedeactivated at any time from the in-game Options (page 3). If SpotPass is active and the systementers Sleep Mode, it will stil lautomatically send and receive data.
