“For me, Incept was an eye-opener to a new lifestyle. T his was my first time ever seeing Georgia State and all it has to offer. Incept also allowed me to meet other students who would potentially be in my classes and in the student organizations I signed up for at lunch time.”

S U M M E R C O N F E R E N C EPARENT & GUEST ORIENTATIONCollege may be a time of transition not just for you, but for your family as well; therefore, we have special Parent/Guest orientation sessions to answer their questions and familiarize them with the Georgia State community. These Parent/Guest conferences run concurrently with student conferences.

Students can register up to two guests during their Incept conference day. Guests will only be confirmed for the Incept orientation to which their student is assigned, and they should be registered through the online PAWS system at the same time as the student.

Georgia State has designed a mandatory online pre-orientation to help new transfer students understand more about Georgia State policies and procedures. This online pre-orientation program should be completed before attending Incept: New Student Orientation.

Go to http://webdb.gsu.edu/preorientation to fulfill this requirement. If you have problems accessing the pre-orientation program, contact the Help Desk at 404/413-4357.

Pre-orientation does not take the place of attending Incept.

“For me, Incept was very informative. I had many questions that needed to be answered, but I didn’t even know where to start. Incept answered the questions I had and showed me all of the resources Georgia State University has to offer. It was also interesting to hear the perspectives of students who had been through the same things I was going through. After the conference was over I was confident in my decision to attend GSU! ”

Students in programs that require MATH 1111 (College Algebra) or higher must take the math placement exam, which will assess your skills and place you in an appropriate math course. Certain test scores serve as prerequisite for entry into College Algebra, Pre-Calculus and higher. The math placement exam is not required for students registering for Math 0098, 0099 or 1101. No fee is required for taking the exam the first time. For more information regarding this requirement, go to www.gsu.edu/es/math_placement_test.html or call the testing office at 404/413-1740.

Math placement exams will be given during the May 5 Incept conference. Students must register and complete Chemistry placement exams, if required, before attending Incept. For specific questions about Math, Chemistry or Foreign Language placement exams, please call the contact number listed in the corresponding sections below, or visit the website.

Before taking any foreign language class higher than 1001, you will need to take the language placement test. For French, German and Spanish, the test is offered online at www2.gsu.edu/~wwwmcl; for other languages, contact the Modern and Classical Languages Department at 404/413-5980.

You do not have to show proof of meeting immunization requirements before attending Incept; however, all new students to Georgia State must have proof of immunization on file with the Health Clinic before attending classes. REGENTS’ TEST

AP AND IB EXAMINATIONS

Effective March 2010, Georgia State students were granted an exemption by the University System of Georgia and are no longer required to take the Regents’ Test. This exemption does not necessarily apply should a student transfer out of GSU to another institution in the University System of Georgia. Students should contact their new institution about its Regents’ Test policy. More information can be found at www.usg.edu.

Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests are accepted at Georgia State University. Official test scores and/or IB transcripts should be mailed directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for review. Questions regarding credit awards should be directed to www.gsu.edu/admissions. Not all exams are accepted. Please see the online catalog for accepted exams. Typically, a score of 3 or higher for AP or 5 or higher on IB will earn credit. Georgia State does not accept subscores for AP exams. If you have taken any of these tests, please consult with an advisor before registering for classes. Failure to do so may result in you repeating a course for which you have earned credit. Refer to Undergraduate Catalog for a full list of accepted courses.

“For me, Incept was a great taste of what life at Georgia State would be like. I got a chance to stay on campus for a night and really experience how it would feel to live on my own when the fall came. I gained a huge amount of pride and anticipation from the people on the Incept team because of all the energy and enthusiasm they gave off.”Jordan Bradley, Class of 2014, Undecided
