Instead of a guest speaker, we will enjoy a sing-along of holiday music led by our favorite “choir master” Jerry Levy, accompanied on the key board by the internationally-acclaimed ms Vicki Keller. (Ms Vicki also will have some of the members of her senior theater group reciting season- appropriate readings such as “the night before christmas”.)We will have a holiday trivia quiz, and an enhanced fifty-fifty raffle. Merriment and fun will be the order of the day.To s ay no th ing o f the a lway s sumptuous bu f f e t p repa red by world-renowned Chef Giacomo of Zagat-rated Primavera Restaurant. So call in and make your reservations now. Rather than meet twice a month, the decision has been made for the Co-Ed Discussion Group to meet only once a month—the third Thursday of the month. With so many different activities and meet-ings scheduled via the Price Center, there does not appear to be a need to meet two times a month. So, we will now be meeting once a month and I look forward to seeing our regular participants when we do meet. Of course it would be great to have new members join us and meeting just once a month might be easy to fit this activity into your schedule. The conversations can be fascinating. So, if you like
talking with others and hearing what other mature LGBT people think and feel then consider joining us. I must admit that it is really nice to get to know new people and our meetings really have provided that opportunity. Thursday, December18 is the date for the monthly December meeting. We meet upstairs at the Pride Center at 1 pm. Join us if you can.
Frank Piasecki
The December Photo-Op will be held on Tuesday, December 9th, at 1:00PM. We will be meeting at the Pride Center, and then deciding on a venue. The December Monthly Meeting will be held on Saturday, December 27th, at 1:00PM, also meeting at the Pride Center. Bring no more than 5 of your favorite self-taken photos.

The snowbirds are back in town, and already we have started our Holiday schedule. Twenty-seven SAGErs attended the October Meet-Up at Ellie’s 50s Diner in Delray Beach, and a wonderful time of eating and socializing was had by all.
November was a very active month, as we had our traditional Zuckerello’s Dinner event, as well as a visit to the World AIDS Mu-seum, and a meet-up afterward at Oscar’s Tea Room. These events were sandwiched around cruises, elections, Smart Ride, and Thanks-giving.
December promises to be just as hectic, as we start out the month with a Holiday Gala Lunch and Learn on Saturday, December 6th. Be sure to make a reservation with the office for this event, as we will be celebrating all things HOLIDAY. On the next weekend, we will be holding our GALA HOLIVERSARY Party on SUNDAY, DECEM-BER 14th, at the Westin Cypress Creek (located in the northeast cor-ner of I-95 and Cypress Creek Road). The festivities will begin at 1:00PM, with registration and an outdoor Happy Hour on the back patio. We will then filter inside to the Ballroom, where Sissy & Da-mon will entertain us and dinner service will begin. There will be prizes and surprises, as well as numerous guest appearances, and I’ve heard that Santa and his Elf may drop in. Reservation forms were sent with the November and December Newsletters, so sign up NOW for this great event.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS, EVERYONE!!!
Well, the holiday season is once again upon us. It is a time to celebrate and reflect on our good fortune of having such a group as the SAGE Men’s Drop In. I so enjoy meeting up with the guys and catching up with the happenings in their lives, both the good and sometimes the not-so-good. We laugh and enjoy hearing about all the fun and interesting things that may be going on with “the guys”. We lend a sympathetic ear when someone may be experiencing a “bump in the road”.
The Men’s Drop In is mostly about fun, laughter, sharing informa-tion, and discussing current events. It’s a great place to come and relax for a couple of hours, see old friends and meet new people. Drop-In is a diverse and interesting group of senior men of signifi-cant accomplishment
This month we hold our annual Holiday party in the main hall of the Pride Center. The celebration will include a luncheon catered by the Zagat-rated Primavera restaurant. Chef Giacomo promises a delicious (as usual) lunch of Italian delicacies. We anticipate a spon-
taneous sing along of appropriate holiday songs and much more.
This is also the time for me to say thank you to all of the men who attend regularly and to the volunteers who make the group so suc-cessful: our efficient treasurer, Phillip Norris, who sees to it that we get our room rent paid each week; SAGE Board Member “Cap-tain” Carl Barton, who assists with the moderating duties; Sonny Miller and John Macintosh, who with Dr. Godfrey Isaacs, set up the room; Dr. David Goldberger, the always willing guest moderator, who never turns me down when I ask him to sit in as moderator; Jim Anderson, who keeps me on my toes with sharp barbs and wit which everyone thoroughly enjoys, and oftentimes make me blush (me blush???); and a special shout out to Sonny for keeping us informed as to the happenings around town.
Remember SAGE is an all-volunteer organization that all of us en-joy. All we ask is that you make every effort to participate in SAGE activities when you can.
Now if you have never attended the Men’s Drop In, we meet every Wednesday from 1-3 pm at the Pride Center. Stop by and I guaran-tee you will receive a warm welcome and be amazed at the friendli-ness and diversity of the group.
Best wishes to everyone for a happy and healthy Holiday season. Thanks for being such great pals.

Help Wanted... Editor/Graphic Designer
Help Wanted... Lunch & Learn Setup and Breakdown Volunteers
How to Get Your Anniversary Pin
As you all know SAGE is a nonprofit organization that depends on volunteers to accomplish our mission. Our current Newsletter (The Sage) Editor and Graphic Designer will be retiring by the end of April. Sharron has been a force in making our newsletter a major part of the SAGE experience. She has for the last six years transformed the newsletter into a major communications and news tool for SAGE. Her contribution of time and talent has been overwhelming. Sharron has begun to take on other activities in the community that have made it difficult for her to continue this effort. She has given us a very long notice so that we can find a replacement and she can work with the individual(s) to continue the extraordinary job she has accomplished. Sharron will continue to be there to help as much as her time permits. If you have the skills to format and edit the SAGE newsletter and are willing to commit the time and effort, please send a synopsis of your qualifications and previous experience and we will get back to you as quickly as we can. Please send the information to the SAGE Office at P.O. Box 70516 Oakland Park, FL 33307 or email the information to [email protected] and [email protected]. Thank you all for your willingness to help keep SAGE performing the functions that our community needs and deserves. Kenneth Goodman President, SAGE of South Florida, Inc.
If you have not gotten your 5, 10, or 15 year pin that is coming to you, please do one of the following:• Pick the pin up at the December Lunch & Learn, the Holiversary Party or at the Annual Meeting.• If you are unable to attend any of these functions, call the office to set up how you can get your pin.
We also have a need for other volunteers that are needed to keep the organization running smoothly. Some of you know Les Oldenbusch who has been a member of SAGE for over ten years. Les turned 92 this year and is one of our oldest members. Les has been volunteering since he first joined SAGE. He manages two important jobs for SAGE.
He is the person who stores, buys, sets up and takes away the stuff we use at our Lunch & Learns each first Saturday of the month. The storage and setup of the plates, knives, forks, spoons, napkins, table coverings, etc. are his responsibil-ity. Because of his age he is unable to do the lifting and setup and breakdown all by himself. He will need at least one or two other volunteers to help him. The job requires coming to the Lunch & Learn site early at the Skolnick Center. The volunteers will help Les unload his car and setup the room for the Lunch & Learn. After the meeting the volunteers will help Les repack the supplies and help load his car. If you would be able to help please contact the office.
Please send the information to the SAGE Office at P.O. Box 70516 Oakland Park, FL 33307 or email the information to [email protected] and [email protected]. Once I receive your reply I will set up a time to meet and discuss the job with you. Thank you all for your willingness to help keep SAGE performing the functions that our community needs and deserves.

The Columbus Day Holiday could not deter the band of SOBA (SAGE on the Border/Alternatives) regulars who look forward to meeting every Monday morning at 11 AM sharp at the Volen Center in Boca Raton. What to do? The Center would be closed on the 13th. We can’t just not meet.
It’s an easy solution for those who love to “wine & dine”. We’ll go out to eat! What
a novel idea! So, we decided to meet for lunch at The Cheesecake Factory, Town Center, Boca Raton. As we straggled in the host seemed to know immediately who we were look-ing for. Were we being rowdy? No, we were a happy effervescent group, all thir-
teen of us, women and men together, unwilling to forego our newly formed habit of meeting with our peers every Monday morning. So comforting.
The food was filling – and delicious too. But it was the conversation and the company we were keeping that made the day. There is nothing quite like getting together with your age- mates, sharing a common past, talking about the present and planning for the future. Telling and listening. That’s what it is all about - Sharing the Moment. Life is in fact made up of moments, isn’t it?
Oh, what did we talk about? Well everything from A to Z as you might imagine. And underlying our conversation was I feel, probably on a subconscious level, those “guide-lines”. The guidelines laid down five years ago that remind us that we can be who we are, say anything, or not as the case may be, and rest assured that no one will criticize or challenge whatever we say. We may not agree with each other but we observe the right of the other person to his or her opinion – period. It actually makes for good conversation.
We’ll do this again & soon.

See You at the MoviesCarl M. Galli
The film screens on Monday, December 15th, at 4PM in Room 204 of the Pride Center.
Dinner will follow.
By now, most of you know that Ken Lowery, my SAGE Movie Co-Host this past year, passed away from complications after his heart surgery, in October. He was a really good person: A friend and a colleague. And a true movie maven, who loved
sharing his knowledge of movies and cinema trivia with all of us. It was once said (by Louis B. Mayer) that MGM had more stars than the heavens. And I think that Ken is now up among them. But he is missed down here. RIP Ken.
Our December 15th movie continues our celebration of the holidays. “Make the Yule-tide Gay” is a 2009 romantic-comedy written and directed by Rob Williams.
K e i t h J o r d a n p l a y s O l a f ‘ G u n n ’ Gunnunderson, a big man on campus in his
College’s LGBT support groups. But a kid who is closeted at home. And it’s off to home he goes during Christmas break . To the lov ing arms of jov ia l Mom, Anya (Kelly Keaton) and pot-smoking, college professor Dad, Sven (out actor Derek Long). And former high school sweetheart Abby (Hallee Hirsh). Sounds cute and all “home for the holidays” so far. Dontcha know?
But then the plot thickens: Gunn (whose nickname indicates more than a passing resemblance to his father -anatomically speaking) has left behind his college boyfriend, Nathan (Adamo Ruggiero -one of TV’s “Degrassi” kids). And Nathan, without prior notice, decides to visit. Not knowing that Gunn is not out at home!
There are so many holiday movies out there that want you to think deep thoughts or look at the holidays with sarcasm that it’s nice to find one that is just fun. With double-entendres flying, and a lot of “corn” in the puns, this is a nice, exuberant gay-themed rom-com for the season.
A customer review from distributor TLAvideo.com sums it up: “THANK YOU for such a wonderful holiday movie! I really needed a good “PICK ME UP” kind of movie as I begin the Christmas weekend and this was WONDERFUL! Fun story line, great tunes and absolutely adorable cast! Keith Jordan is totally spot on in this role... And the mother (Kel-ly Keaton) what a gem she is! I found this to be an entertaining and heartwarming movie that will be a TRADITION for many holidays to come!...There are so many Christmas movies out there - gay and straight, that just beat you over the head with either the irony of it all, the ultra-despair themes -or the sugar coated perfection of it all - but This one is just a down right FEEL GOOD MOVIE! And that’s just what I needed!”
“Make the Yuletide Gay” is Not Rated, and runs 89 minutes.
It made the Festival Circuit rounds in 2009, and won several awards, including Best Feature (San Diego; Seoul; Long Island) and was the Festival Favorite at Philadelphia Qfest. And a sequel is in the works.
