LSO Live

LSO Live is the London Symphony Orchestra’s own record label and uses the latest technology to capture the orchestra’s most exciting performances. Launched in 1999 with the aim of reaching new audiences for classical music as well as dedicated listeners, it was the first of the new breed of artist-owned labels which have helped revitalise the market for classical music.

By seamlessly editing together several live performances, LSO Live recordings retain the vitality of the live experience combined with a level of refinement that was previously only possible to attain by recording in a studio. The label releases new recordings on the Super Audio CD format and was a pioneer in digital music, as well as the first classical label to make its entire catalogue available for download.

LSO LiveLSO Live has released over 100 recordings conducted by many of the world’s greatest artists including Valery Gergiev, Sir Colin Davis and Bernard Haitink. Since collecting its first Grammy Awards in 2001 it has won numerous international prizes including Gramophone Awards, Classical Brits, Orphées d’or, Chocs de l’année and Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik.

The label helps many other artists and orchestras to produce and distribute recordings. It is also manages the award-winning Mariinsky label on behalf of the Mariinsky Theatre, St Petersburg (formerly known as the Kirov), and the label of The Choir of King’s College, Cambridge.
