Prayer of Invocation/Confession
Our Great God, we come to You, in
this time of worship, knowing that
You are present. You are with us in
good times and bad times. Down
through the years, You have made all
things new and right. Our hope rests
in Your faithfulness. In times of
sorrow, You comfort. In times of
need, You sustain. We are never alone.
You have provided for our every need.
Thank You God, for sending Your Son
into the world to show us the way.
Thank You God, for pouring out Your
Holy Spirit upon us to empower and
to guide. May this time of worship
quench a thirsty yearning for Your
presence. In Your name, we pray.
Amen.
I will praise the Lord as long as I live.
I will sing praises to my God all my
life long. Praise the Lord! Praise the
Lord, O my soul!
OFFERTORY PRAYER
You have been gracious to us, O Lord.
You have reached out and touched us
with Your love, O Lord. As we give
today, we give out of thankfulness.
Please use our tithes, offerings and
sacrificial gifts so that others may
know and feel the touch of the
Master's hand. There is work for us
to do. Help us to be faithful in
obedience and generous in love.
Eternal God, Your name is honored
among us. Amen.
"The Lord is good to all: and his
mercies are over all His works."

singing and playing various instruments. Love towards
God's people is the driving, motivational force in all he does
for the body of Christ!
Pastor Jones preached his first sermon the fourth Sunday in
August 1998 and was called to pastor Williams Chapel on Sunday, January 1,
2006. He is a VISIONARY with a focus on soul saving, edifying believers and
strengthening the body of Christ in this present age
Through the vision of Pastor Jones several worship and fellowship initiatives
have been added at The Chapel: Annual Month of Fasting and Prayer; Annual
Church Without Walls Month; Family Fun Night fellowships; Annual Bowling
Celebration; Perfected Praise Youth Singing Ministry; God’s “Men of Fire”’;
Seasonal Church Theme Gatherings; and many other ministries for the up
building of the Kingdom.
Pastor Jones was honorably selected as the Keynote Speaker at the National
NAACP 98th Annual Convention's Youth Advisors Luncheon. Pastor Jones is
currently active in various Christian organizations such as the National Church
Empowerment Conference, the National Church Leaders Conference and the
National Baptist Congress and Convention, and serves as National Music
Director for National Trusted Partners For Christ.
Pastor Jones gives ALL HONOR AND GLORY TO GOD THROUGH HIS SON,
JESUS CHRIST and bases his loyal servitude to God's ministry on St. Luke 4:18:
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the
gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach
deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty
them that are bruised"

When we decide to make Jesus Christ our Lord, Jesus gives us the blessings of
the Gospel. We are children of God and we are called to be faithful in carrying
the good news to the whole world. The Gospel of Jesus Christ should reach far
and near. We should go out into the world and take Jesus with us. We must go
with the attitude of Jesus. And we must be willing to do what Christ did for
others. Jesus said, "I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you
gave me drink." In the name of Jesus, let's go; let's do and let's be!

A Brief History of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church
In 1924 a few officers and members of Mount Beulah, banded together and organized a
church which they named Mount Lebanon Baptist Church. Two ministers worked
together in the organization of the church. This small faithful group of people purchased
a lot at 20470 Wisconsin in Detroit. More people moved into the area, joined Mount
Lebanon Baptist Church and the name was changed to First Baptist Church.
Reverend Smith served as Pastor until 1929. Reverend Theodore Williams served from
1931 until 1935. The church called Reverend Pyles who served about three years and
rebuilt First Baptist. He was unable to finish rebuilding the church because God called
him from labor to reward. Reverend Sandy Gibson, who was the assistant to Reverend
Pyles, carried out his term and was elected for a short period in 1939.
Reverend Charles B. Heath was called as pastor in the spring of 1939. Much was
accomplished under Reverend Heath’s administration. Due to the fact that there were
two churches in Detroit with the same name, Reverend Heath had the church change its
name from First Baptist to New Prospect Baptist Church on January 7, 1945.
In 1953 the church voted to enlarge their present building. The members were
supportive of this effort and contributed considerably. In March 1960, the members
borrowed ten thousand dollars and made the down payment to purchase the 6330
Pembroke building. Reverend Heath pastored the church for twenty eight (28) years
until his death in 1967.
In February 1968, the church called Reverend Dr. S. Leon Whitney from Jackson,
Mississippi. Under his pastoral leadership an addition to the Pembroke Property was
made and the facilities were expanded to its current structure. There was much growth
under Reverend Whitney until his death in December 1990. His son, Reverend Dr. Keith
L. Whitney assumed the pastoral leadership from 1991 until 1996. Reverend Randolph F.
Henlon who was the Assistant Pastor at the time served as Interim Pastor from 1996 until
March 1999.
On March 1, 1999, history was made in Detroit. Reverend Wilma Robena Johnson, a
female assistant pastor at Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, was elected Senior Pastor
of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church. A new light appeared in the community.
THIS IS THE CHURCH WHERE THE SPIRIT OF UNITY ABIDES.
THIS IS THE CHURCH WHERE THE VISION LIVES AND SHINES!
