AGREEMENT FOR TRAINING AND UNIFORM REIMBURSEMENT FOR STERLING POLICE OFFICERS THIS AGREEMENT is made and entered into this ______________ day of _____________, _____________ by and between the CITY OF STERLING (“City”) and ___________________________ (“Applicant” or “Employee”). WHEREAS, Applicant wishes to be hired by the City as a full-time sworn police offer; and WHEREAS, the City will incur substantial training costs as a result of hiring Applicant as a full-time sworn peace officer; and WHEREAS, the City expects, as a benefit of its bargain with Applicant, to receive from Applicant at least four years of service; and WHEREAS, Applicant, if hired, would be employed under terms and conditions collectively bargained with the PBPA which provides that an Applicant shall reimburse the City for costs associated with hiring and training an Applicant. NOW THEREFORE, for good and valuable consideration, the sufficiency of which is acknowledged by the parties, it is hereby agreed as follows: 1.) If I am hired and voluntarily terminate my employment within the first four years after the completion of my initial training at the University of Illinois Police Training Institute or other certified training facility or after my employment date if I am already a Illinois certified police officer, I will reimburse the City for all of the City’s direct and indirect costs associated with my hiring and training, as follows: During the initial probationary period up to 12 months maximum: 100% of the initial hiring, training costs, body armor and uniform costs incurred by the Sterling Police Department up to $12,900. Years of Employment Percentage Reimbursement Up to 2 years 80% Up to 3 years 60% Up to 4 years 40% 2.) In the event that I owe hiring and training costs to the City in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement and the collective bargaining agreement and have not paid the costs to the City as of the last day of employment, I consent to the deduction by the City from my wages and/or final compensation of the training costs owed under this Agreement. 3.) I further agree to repay any outstanding expenses for which I may be responsible to the Sterling Police Department at the time of my resignation. 4.) In the event I fail to repay amounts owed under this Agreement and the collective bargaining agreement, I understand that the City may commence a lawsuit against me to collect such amounts owed under this Agreement and the collective bargaining agreement. I agree that if it becomes necessary to enforce this contract and judgment is entered against me, I will pay all costs and expenses incurred by the City of Sterling including attorney fees. 5.) I understand and agree that this agreement does not constitute an employment contract and that the Sterling Police Department reserves the right, as employer, to reassign, discipline or to terminate in accordance with departmental and City of Sterling Rules and Regulations. I also understand that this agreement does not grant me any special rights or benefits from the Sterling Police Department and does not require the Sterling Police Department to offer me a position as a police officer. I understand that if I complete the University of Illinois Police Training Institute or other such certified police training academy, or as a presently certified police officer, become a member of the Sterling Police Department, this agreement does not alter or affect any other terms or conditions of my employment with the Sterling Police Department. I agree that if it becomes necessary to enforce this contract and judgment is entered against me, I will pay all costs and expenses incurred by the City of Sterling including attorney fees. Listed below are the estimated hiring and training costs. Only costs incurred by the City of Sterling will be required to be reimbursed. (Below costs are maximum.)

Tuition to Academy $5,108.00

Initial Uniform Costs (only items purchased) $2,665

Medical Exams (Drug, Polygraph, Eye, Physical and Psychological) $950

Background Investigation $1,506

Field Training Officer compensation $2,671

TOTAL: $ 12,900 (Maximum)

*Only Initial Uniform, Medical Exams, Background and FTO Costs will apply to officers previously certified upon being employed by the Sterling Police Department.

I have read and understand the above listed costs for my training and expenses and agree to the total listed (when applicable).
