So let us all remember that . . .

“There's more, much more to Christmas

Than just candle-lights and cheer;

It's the spirit of sweet friendship

That brightens all the years;

It is thoughtfulness and kindness,

It is hope that is reborn again,

For peace, for understanding

And for goodwill to humans!”

- Author Unknown

Our wish for you is a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Dear Sisters and Brothers, As you are reading this, our Official Visits are almost complete

May you have the Gladness of Christmas

which is Peace,The Heart of Christmas

which is Love,The Spirit of Christmas

which is Joy.

We were all welcomed back after the summer recess with words on fall. After hearing the minutes, etc., along with various reports on summer activities we were saddened to learn of the passing of Sister Marie I. Hubbard, a charter member and one who was active until her illness stopped her from coming.

Bob King, WGP, spoke and thanked all for their support over the year and looked forward to seeing everyone at Grand Chapter.

Brenda Saunders, PGM

The meeting opened with Rose Scott, WM, reading a lovely “Dad's” reading.

We were advised that the floor in the Banquet Hall would be replaced over the summer. The Friends of the Moncton Hospital have advised that a silver plaque will be placed on the wall at the Moncton Hospital in recognition of our contributions.

A book sale was ongoing in the lower hall, a good number of really good books available. The School of Instruction for our district was held in Campbellton this year, so the brothers had agreed to serve us breakfast at 7 am previous to our trip to Campbellton. ( Continued Page 29)

been very difficult to hold a proper Board meeting due to lack of attendance. He stressed that we have worked very hard in the past to get this Temple and that we need to look after it. We, the Eastern Star, as well as the Masons, have put a considerable amount of money into this building. He asked that a motion be made that our “4” top Officers also be automatically on the Board. The Worthy Matron and the Master of the Lodge are each to appoint two other members to be on the Board. It was also stated and in the motion that if a member cannot make it to a meeting of the Board that they are to call another member to fill in that evening for them as a voting member. Sis Audrey reported that the Maine/Maritime luncheon was very well received and that the help received was fantastic. The reception for Sis Carolyn Dunnett was also very well received. She was very pleased with the entire afternoon. The balance of the monies that Sis. Sandy gave for the food for the reception was handed over to Sis. Rose to put with the donation being made to Don Roberts for the Dyslexia School. Sis Audrey

Adah:

Once upon a time, A long, long time ago.

Begins the story of a baby,That most of you should know.

A joyous occasion for most.

His daddy's name was Joseph,And Mary was His mom,

This babe was very special He was God's only Son.

Now Joseph, he insistedThat his wife has some place to stay,

The keeper told him of a stableWith animals and hay.

This month we celebrate Christmas,

Worthy Matron:

To which we raise a toast.Let us reflect on the season

Star of the East, that long agoBrought wise men on their way

Where, angels singing to and fro,The Child of Bethlehem lay--

Above that Syrian hill afarThou shinest out tonight, O Star!

Ruth:

Mary rode a camel,And Joseph walked along,

While angels watched from afarCelebrating in song.

When they arrived in Bethlehem,The couple was turned away,

By keepers of the innTelling them of no place to stay.

Esther:

Mary and Joseph's journey endedIn a stable filled with hay,

It was there that Mary gave birth,To our King on this day.

Some angels came from heaven,And they began to sing.

To the shepherds in the fields below,"Glad tidings do we bring!”

Martha:

Electa:

So as we celebrate ChristmasWith candy and presents and more

Remember we have a Savior,Giving us life evermore.

Chaplain:

Star of the East! show us the wayIn wisdom undefiled

To seek that manger out and layOur gifts before the Child--

To bring our hearts and offer themUnto our King in Bethlehem!

O Father, may that holy star Grow every year more bright,

And send its glorious beams afar To fill the world with light.

Worthy Matron:

And all who gathered round Him,

Rejoiced and praised His birth. For the babe, the King, named Jesus,

Is our Saviour here on earth!

A bright star lit the heavens,To light the magi's way,

To the baby in the mangerWho was born on Christmas day.

Word of the King's arrivalSoon spread very fast,

The Angels told ShepherdsThat a Savior was born at last.

Every day is Christmas When you have the kind of mind That stores up all the goodness And the sweetness it can find.

When you don't need an occasion To spread a bit of cheer

But just keep on a-giving Of yourself throughout the year.

Every day is Christmas

With a gaily wrapped surprise When you get to see the friendship

In someone else's eyes. When you try a little harder And complain a little less,

Holding fast to all the fervor Of the faith that you possess

Every day is Christmas

When you've found that you can be More concerned with words like

"you" And less with "I" and "me". When it's fun to do a favor

And to lend a helping a hand, When being understood means less,

Than when you understand.

Every Day Is Christmas

Every day is Christmas

With a beauty deeply cast, When you find it doesn't matter If you're first or if you're last.

When you can face your conscience And be glad of what you are, Then every day is Christmas

Telling the Christmas Story:

TO BOIL LOBSTER TO EAT COLD THE COMMON WAY

TO KEEP LOBSTERS A QUARTER OF A YEAR VERY

GOOD

And for those who want to go back to the basics in skin care:

Simmer on a very low fire or over water 1 ½ oz. of honeysuckle bark in 4 oz. of olive oil. Do this for one hour. Cool and strain through a affine cloth. Use on dry or wrinkled skin. You may scent this when cool with oil of honeysuckle or the scent of your choice.

Take them being boilt as aforesaid wrap them in coarse rags having been steeped in brine and bury them in a cellar in some sea-sand pretty deep.

Take them alive or dead, lay them in cold water to make the claws tuff, and keep them from breaking off; then have a kettle over the fire with fair water, put in it as much bay salt as will make it a good strong brine, when it boils scum it and put in the lobsters, let them boil leasurely the space of half an hour or more, according to the bigness of them, being well boild take them up, wash them, and then wipe them with beer and butter, and keep them for your use.

Sister Marjorie Gilbert

Sister Marjorie Gilbe rt joined Winston Churchill Chapter #19 on June 2nd, 1969. She joined with her husband, Bro. Harold, and Sis. Helen & Bro. Barrett Killam, Sis. Marion and Bro. Gerald Wilson. Sis. Marjorie was a very talented artist. She died on Aug. 11, 2009 at the age of 95. A memorial service was held on Aug. 15th, 2009 at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. Our sympathies are extended to her family.

“She has followed our Star in its splendor

And the memory of her, who we loved and lost,

"Peace be Thine”

She was the wife of the late Rudolph Murray and the eldest daughter of the late Bro. Wallace Hyslop, PGP and Sis Louise Hyslop. She was a teacher who taught in many of the local schools in the St. Stephen area and was also the Librarian for many years in a St. Stephen school. She was an active member of her Church and enjoyed playing bridge and quilting and will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.

Prince Andrew Chapter #42 was deeply saddened with the passing of Sister Marie I. Hubbard, a charter member and former secretary of the Chapter.

St. Stephen Chapter #8 was saddened to learn of the death of another member on September 19, 2009. Sis Miriam was initiated into our Chapter on July 15, 1974.

Brings heaven much nearer today.”

25 Years Ago - 1984 50 Years Ago - 1959

A delicious chicken pattie lunch was served in the banquet hall. The tables were decorated with white baskets of gladioli and asters. These were sent to Sister Gladys Smith, our secretary, who had met with an accident, and Bro. Colby Garleton, A. P., a patient in hospital.

A.—No. When there are not sufficient Officers present, the Officers may take their stations informally.Installed Officers, who find they are unable to be present due to sickness or other reasons, should advise the W. M. prior to the meeting so that substitute may be obtained. This not only reflects conscientious interest on the part of the absent Officers but avoids last minute substitutions.

A.—No. This is optional. If there is to be no ceremony, the flag is stationed in the East before opening of the Chapter. If there is to be a ceremony, the flag is placed in the West before opening of the Chapter.

Sister Mersereau expressed her pleasure at being back once again to our Chapter and thanked Sister Velma for the lovely corsage; also her delight that she was present. She addressed the members on the importance of their initiation and admonished them to practice the lessons of the Star Points and to show Charity, Loving Kindness to their fellow citizens. Sister Elspie presented Sister Edith with a cheque for ESTRAL instead of the Chapter's gift of a corsage. Sister Jean Morris, A. M., presented Sister Edith with a gift from the Chapter members.

Greetings are sent to our members living out of town; they are remembered by all and are missed at our meetings.

Bathurst Chapter was honored to welcome to their regular meeting in October Sister Edith Mersereau, W. G. M. Mrs. Elspie Smith, W. M., presided over the meeting, assisted by the W. P., Bro. Tom Drillen. Sister Mersereau was welcomed to the East and accorded Grand Honors. Sister Velma Branch, Grand Conductress, was welcomed to the meeting. Visitors were present from Chaleur Chapter No. 17, Prince Charles No. 27, Fort Monckton No. 11, Saint John No. 14 and Hillcrest No. 40.

THE QUESTION BOX Q.—Is it necessary to have an opening march?

Q.—Is it necessary to have a Flag presentation ceremony?

The presentation of the flag should not be looked upon as just a ritual or ceremony. It is a re-dedication of our appreciation and loyalty to our country. It is a symbol of the many freedoms that we enjoy through the sacrifices of those who now live and those who have gone before us, even to the giving of life, that we may live in peace and harmony with those about us and with other nations.

escorted to the east and given grand honours, as were Sis. Jacquie Boutilier, WGM and Bro. DeWitt Lister, WGP of New Brunswick. GGCCM Sis. Eleanor Mitchell on Knights Templar Eye Foundation, several PGM's and PGP's from N.S. & P.E.I, and PGM Sis. Kay Bleakney and PGP's Joseph Potter, Frank Bean, Douglas Hannah and Ralph Haley. All of the grand officers of both jurisdictions and Grand Representatives, and several worthy matrons and patrons were introduced, taken to the east and given a hearty welcome, a custom not practiced in N.S. but very much practiced in N.B.

Thanks again Joe.

MARITIME NIGHT — HALIFAX, N.S.

This session was opened in form by the Officers of T.D. Mabe Chapter in Bedford. The WGM Sis. Eunice Brown and the WGP Bro. Neil Archibald were then introduced,

A gathering was held on October 13,1984 at St. Mary's University in Halifax for the purpose of N.B. in N.S. & P.E.I, exchange, at which time the Grand Officers of New Brunswick exemplified the Initiatory work.

The Grand Officers then assumed their stations and exemplified the work of the order in a very fitting manner. Sis. Lois Hicks, filled in as treasurer, Sis. Geraldine Keiver as Organist and Sis. Hilda Shaffer as Warder, for which we are grateful. After the work of the order was completed and the lighter side of life prevailed, the WGM of N.S. & P.E.I, presented Sis. Jacquie and Bro. DeWitt each with a Care Bear, the WGM's fun symbol. All distinguished guests spoked fittingly on the occasion of the evening and to the new members. After the meeting closed, refreshments were served and Bro. Joe Potter gathered up his bus people and took them home, for which we thank you Joe for looking after us. Many cars were in attendance from N.B. besides the care bears from Care Bear Bus No. 3.
