Orange is the New Green: Reviewing ACS Criteria Changes for Level I, II, III, and IV Trauma Centers The new color brings us new changes. Darlene and Tracy will outline the criteria changes for levels I, II, III, and IV trauma centers.

“Someone’s Been Injured”: Case Study Presentations Delivery of trauma care requires an organized multidisciplinary system approach to providing care of the severely injured. All health care providers function in in a pre-planned concert with one another from time of injury through rehabilitation or discharge. This presentation will provide an opportunity to review and discuss trauma care provided in the NE region by reviewing trauma cases.

Level IV Site Review: Sharing Our Experience Designated trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the Kansas Trauma Program. The Kansas Trauma Program provides confirmation that a level trauma center has demonstrated its commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for all injured patients through a site review process. Dr. James Longabaugh and Stacy Scott will share their level IV trauma center’s site review process experience.

Field Triage Guidelines: The Past, The Present, & The Future A myriad of studies have demonstrated the benefits that trauma centers have on decreasing morbidity and mortality of injured patients; if they are cared for at the most appropriate health care facility. The concept of field triage addresses this issue. One of the most critical decisions that the EMS providers are tasked with is which trauma center the patient’s injuries can be best managed. This presentation will provide an overview of past and current field triage use initiatives and provide opportunity to discuss the vision for the future for field triage guidelines use by all EMS providers across the state.

Injury Prevention: ATV Education Resources The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recognizes that ATVs are not going away and therefore has the goal of making the riding experience safer to keep more riders alive. Information contained in the presentation includes a brief overview of CPSC’s jurisdiction, ATV stats and information about CPSC’s ATV education program and safety recommendations.

Universal Screening for Alcohol Use Alcohol is a significant associated factor in, and contributor to, injury. It is now ACS criterion for all trauma centers to have in place a “screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment” (SBIRT) process. Dr. Heather Gotham will describe the steps of SBIRT, including specific universal and targeted screening tools and training resources available.

FLEX’s Focus on EMS/Trauma: Past, Present, and Future The Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility (FLEX) Program focuses on supporting the quality improvement in critical access hospitals (CAHs), supports the operational and financial improvement in CAHs, supports the health system development and community engagement including integrating EMS in regional and local systems of care, and designation of CAHS in the State. The FLEX program has provided funding support for trauma education the past several years. This presentation will provide information on how the FLEX Program is refocusing its efforts and will be supporting EMS initiatives including performance improvement and use of field triage guidelines education.

CarFit: Fitting Older Adults to Their Vehicles CarFit is an educational program that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles “fit” them. The CarFit program also provides information and materials on community-specific resources that could enhance their safety as drivers, and/or increase their mobility in the community. This presentation will provide information on state, regional and community-specific CarFit resources.
