For Your Information Dr Thomas Ward is the founder and former President of the National Associa-

tion of Catholic Families (NACF), which is a member of the Voice of the Fam-

ily coalition. He is also a corresponding member of the Pontifical Academy for

Life.

In his address Dr Ward explains the history of a wide range of attacks on the

right of parents to be the primary educators of their children. In the words of St

John Paul II, he reminds us that:

"We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation human-

ity has gone through... We are now facing the final confrontation between the

Church and the anti-Church, of the Gospel and the anti-Gospel. This confronta-

tion lies within the plans of divine providence. It is a trial which the whole

Church… must take up."

Dr Ward explains that this "greatest confrontation humanity has ever known

leaves parents the only protectors of their children." While discussing the most

serious attacks on parental rights in different countries, he argues that

"increasingly good parents will have little moral alternative to civil disobedi-

ence and indeed imprisonment."

The removal of parent's rights started with contraception, Dr Ward argues:

"Forty years of experience as a family doctor with a special interest in actively

defending the family have left me in no doubt that the heart of this Culture of

Death is the artificial separation in sexual intercourse of life, the procreative

from love, the unitive by contraception."

He continues:

"This separation of life from love has spread from contraception to in vitro fer-

tilization and now logically and even theologically to homosexual "marriage"."

In the light of Humanae Vitae teaching clearly that "the inseparable connection,

willed by God and unable to be broken by man on his own initiative, between

the two meanings of the conjugal act: the unitive meaning and the procreative

meaning", Dr Ward argues that as a result of the rejection of this truth

"generations have been lost to the Church":

"Our children are paying an enormous price for the silence, obfuscation and

political accommodations of so many of our Bishops. Yes our children have

paid for their policies."

In his powerful address in defense of the right of parents to be the primary edu-

cators of their children, Dr Ward emphasizes that "marriage and the family and

therefore the Church and civilization now depend upon the clearest possible

proclamation of Humanae Vitae of Blessed Pope Paul VI and of Familiaris

Consortio of Saint John Paul the Great." (from Voice of the family newsletter)

for the gifts you have given to us — our lives, our family, our friends, our time, talents and treasure.

As stewards, we receive Your gifts gratefully, cherish and tend them, in a responsible manner,

Walk with us, O God, Give us the strength and courage to become better followers of Jesus.

Give us the generosity to respond to your love, to your call. We give glory to you, O God,

as we make stewardship a way of life. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen

Liturgy of The Word

CORPUS CHRISTI, CYCLE B

About this Solemnity

Today we celebrate Corpus Christi, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and

Blood of Christ. In the Eucharistic feast, the gifts of bread and wine really and

truly become the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ. Through this cove-

nant of love, God draws us into his diving life and offers us food for our earthly

pilgrimage to continue with faith and hope, confident in God’s ability to transform

our weaknesses and sufferings into life and joy.

The Lectionary for Mass

First Reading

The people Moses led out of Egypt had gone through a death to their old way of

life and were now on a journey toward the land and life God planned for them. By

sprinkling ox blood on them, Moses ritualized their death to the old and their

pledge of fidelity to the new covenant of the Law. Their sprinkling, like ours in

Baptism, was an outward sign of the indelible inward change that had begun in

them.

Responsorial Psalm

As we say that we will take up the cup of salvation, we join ourselves to the Israel-

ites with Moses and the disciples at the Last Supper. We are invited to consider

what the cup of salvation has meant and means for us today. Drinking from this

cup brings us into communion with Christ, making us participants in his Passion,

Death, and Resurrection.

Second Reading

The Letter to the Hebrews talks about God’s dwelling places in the world. Once,

the Hebrews carried a tabernacle on pilgrimage with them to the Promised Land,

and finally installed it in the temple. The Letter to the Hebrews proclaims that

Christ has opened a new tabernacle in the dwelling place of god. In other writings

Paul speaks of Christians as new dwelling places for God, as temples of the Holy

Spirit. Where do we look for God’s dwelling among us?

Gospel

In Mark’s narrative of the Last Supper, we realize that God has everything pre-

pared, but that it is up to the disciples to lay it all our, to prepare for the actual

sharing around the table. Today, we might put ourselves in their sandals and ask

how we are to play our part in preparing for the sharing the meal of the Eucharist.

How do we prepare ourselves and what must we do so that others can fully partici-

pate? ( from Sourcebook for Sundays, Seasons, And Weekdays)

to all who donate time, talent and treasure to Bridge Of Hope Kitchen and

Daily Devotions/Reflections

Lord, I thank You for the truth of Your Word. Your truth sets me free

from all the lies of the enemy. Help me to know more and more of Your

truth. Give me greater knowledge of Your Word so that I can always re-

fute the devil’s lies. Help me to clearly understand the Bible every time I

read it so that Your Word and Your truth will live in me and I will truly be

Your disciple. Amen

Thought For The Week

“Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that

you don't know how great you can be! How much you can love!

What you can accomplish! And what your potential is!”

(Anne Frank)

Please continue to pray for our Seminarian, Kirt

Prospere, who graduated on May 9th with a Mas-

ters Degree in Catholic Philosophical Studies.

Prayer For Vocations

Jesus, You are the Good Shepherd. You know each of us and You call us by name to serve in faith.

Help us to respond generously to Your voice. Give courage and guidance

to those you call to the priesthood and the diaconate, to religious life and lay ministry,

so they may respond whole-heartedly and serve devotedly. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
