Dr. Paul T. Shattuck is a pioneering leader in the field of developmental disabilities epidemiology, services and policy research. He has secured millions of dollars in federal and philanthropic funding (over $12M in the past four years), and is a founding leader of the AJ Drexel Autism Institute’s interdisciplinary research program on Life Course Outcomes and the National Autism Data Center. Most of Dr. Shattuck’s current research informs the improvement of services and related outcomes among youth with autism as they leave high school and transition to young adulthood.
This includes the launch of a community based innovation incubator (the Transition Pathways Initiative). Dr. Shattuck creatively integrates diverse training in nonprofit leadership, sociology, social work, social policy, disability studies, and public health.
Dr. Shattuck’s keynote presentation, “Life Course Research and Community Engagement to Improve Autism Outcomes” will describe the evolution and impacts of his Life Course Outcomes research program and community engagement initiatives. This work has been repeatedly recognized by federal and nonprofit agencies for its impact on the field of autism research, federal legislation, and community program design. With deep roots in social work and public health, the life course framework emphasizes the influence of social-historical context and institutional transitions on people’s needs, access to services, and life outcomes.
As part of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, The Boggs Center offers this program for social work continuing education credit per NJAC 13:44G6.4.c(5). This program has been approved by the Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association (DDNA) for continuing education credit.
Certificates of Attendance from The Boggs Center will be available to all participants at the end of the program. The 3rd Annual New Jersey Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (NJLEND) Maternal & Child Health Leadership Symposium is eligible for 1 hour of continuing education recognition.

NJLEND is New Jersey’s Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities program, and is a component of The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. NJLEND provides graduate-level interdisciplinary, leadership training aimed at preparing the next generation of culturally competent health and allied health leaders to address the needs of children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), health disparities, related developmental disabilities, and other maternal and child health populations. NJLEND Fellows and faculty represent seven disciplines across Rutgers and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. NJLEND also provides continuing education to families and Maternal and Child Health professionals, including this Symposium, and provides technical assistance to Title V and community programs.
