Traditional Hydrogen Challenges

Hydrogen is the universe’s most abundant element and the world’s cleanest source of energy. But its use has been restricted by challenges in how to harvest, store, transport and release that energy. Most hydrogen is produced by cracking natural gas (also known as steam methane reforming), which creates CO2 as a byproduct and is typically produced centrally at a wellhead. So it requires a specialized and expensive infrastructure for safe storage and distribution, which further constrains hydrogen’s availability and efficiency. Electrolysis, the separation of hydrogen from oxygen in water by passing an electrical current, offers some flexibility as to where it can be used; however, this process has historically been inefficient.

What is Hydrogen 2.0?

Joi Scientific™ is working to overcome these hurdles to enable the localized production of clean hydrogen energy at the point-of-use. Our Hydrogen 2.0™ technology uses an innovative process to safely extract hydrogen from seawater, without additives―an industry first. Better still: hydrogen gas can be made where it is going to be consumed, on-site or on-board, at room temperature and ambient pressure. A Hydrogen 2.0 energy system can be characterized by the following:

Clean. The Hydrogen 2.0 production process can generate hydrogen without the use of chemicals or carbon emissions. On the consumption side, Hydrogen 2.0 fuel will return only water back into the environment.

On-Demand. Hydrogen 2.0 is characterized for its on-demand production. Systems that use Hydrogen 2.0 processes will enable the safe generation of hydrogen on-site or on-board, where and when it is needed.

Affordable. If scaled economically, Hydrogen 2.0 is designed to be cost-competitive to other energy alternatives. It is an energy source with a potentially unprecedented level of predictability in pricing stability, since it doesn’t require exploration or drilling and can be manufactured 24/7 anywhere.

Can turn the planet’s most abundant substance, seawater, into clean energy, 24/7. Hydrogen 2.0 can also work with salinated water, groundwater, surface water, potable or effluent water.

Easy storage

Can be stored at ambient pressure and a wide range of temperatures (0°C to 90°C).

Existing infrastructure
