GOA EXCURSION
thOn 12 September, the tenths boarded the train to Vasco Da Gama.
We arrived at Paradise Village Beach Resort in the morning. After resting for some time, we left for Aguada Fort, a large red stone fort facing the
sea. In the evening we visited Vagator Beach. This was followed by a DJ night. The next day we went to the Mangueshi Temple. After that we went to
Donapaula Beach. The next day we visited Bom Jesus Basilica which hosts the body of Saint Francis Xavier. There are many legends and myths about the
church. We also visited Spice Plantation where we ate some delicious food. Another DJ night followed which I doubt we will ever forget. The next day we
went to the famous Calangute Beach. By eight that night, we checked out of the resort but not without tears.
Overall it was an experience we will never forget.Aditya Edassery

BLACK AND WHITE
One evening, Nick decided to try and make friends with the kids who played
basketball everyday, in the nearby ground. The boys started murmuring as
soon as they saw him. He greeted them enthusiastically and introduced
himself. The boys replied with a bland 'hi' and continued with their game.
Nick could not be happier. His family had just moved from South Africa into a
huge mansion in New York city. The mansion was huge and looked magnificent.
It was surrounded by a lush green garden, with huge trees and beautiful
flowers growing all around the place.
They did not make any eye contact
with him. Nick asked them if he
could play with them, but they said
that they had enough people already
and Nick could come back the
following day. When he came the
next day, they made up another
excuse and sent him back.
Everyday Nick would come to the ground in the hope that they would let him
play. However they continued to make excuses. Some of them were
annoyed that he kept coming everyday. They became rude and started to
make fun of him. Nick was deeply hurt. He wondered why they were turning
their back on him. Maybe it was his accent, or the way he was
dressed.
Then, one day he realized that it was neither. It was all about his dark
complexion. That was the only reason. The local New York kids with their
milky white faces couldn't accept someone in their group who was different
from them.
Nick did not understand what was so wrong in being dark. Famous
personalities like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr. Will Smith,
Morgan Freeman, Brian Lara and Michael Jordan did not need to have fair
skin to be successful.
From that day Nick made up his
mind that he will try to put a stop to
all this racial discrimination, which
even in today's modern era, is seen
in many places.
equally by everybody and must be given their rightful place in our society. He
wants to remove the fake label of 'bad' which was given to the dark skinned
people, once and for all.
Even today Nick is seen sincerely
doing his job and trying to abolish
all sorts of racial discrimination. His
aim is that all people must be treated
We can all help Nick, by changing our thinking and demolishing that
mental block in our head which says 'dark-bad' and 'white-good'.

TRAUMAEvents with profoundly disturbing effects are not uncommon in a less
disturbing setting. A mundane train journey was thus transformed into a grim
experience, that I do not think will be easily erased from my memory. The
train was destined for Chennai. I was late. I hurried to the station, and was
able to enter my compartment and catch my seat in the nick of time. The
window seat was my refuge. Alone, the constantly changing landscape
provided brief relief in my melancholic seclusion. I gazed outward, into the
distance, but even then, a strange and grim sense of foreboding manifested
itself within. I dismissed this as another effect of my solitude, but it
persistently nagged at me. I turned my head from the window. A sense of
grim inevitability rose within me, the indifferent sorrow replaced by sudden,
gripping fear. Right across me I saw two pairs of cold eyes. They say that
eyes are the windows to the soul. In that case, these dead eyes seemed to
open up to withered conscience. Just then, the train came to a grinding halt.
Policemen charged into the compartment, and in a flash, I found myself in a
strong, cold grip. I caught a glimpse of a knife. I believe there were three
policemen. My abductor's accomplice fired a bullet right through one of the
policemen, the murderer's eyes not wincing once. Rather, a sadistic sneer
illuminated his scarred face. The compartment erupted into pandemonium.
The police had to open fire. The one holding me was shot, and his vice-like
grip became lifeless. The ruthless murder of another policeman followed,
before the second of them was ultimately killed as well.
The gunfire resulted in indiscriminate bloodbath. The horrifying sight of those
dead bodies is forever ingrained in my memory. One might argue that I was
fortunate to escape unscathed from such a close brush with death, but I beg
to differ. I cannot sleep, for within the unending void of my closed eyes,
these images are replayed vividly over and over again. I do not expect the
trauma to disappear, either. I am an unwilling prisoner of a disturbed mind.

THE END
The strange looking boy standing outside my house looked nervous. He kept running his fingers through his dark hair and chewing his fingernails.
“Can I help you?”, I asked.
He looked up and stared at me with utter disbelief. “Mia Carter?”, he murmured.
I wondered how he knew my name I asked him if I knew him. “I'm Aiden”,
he said, “I'm here to change the ending.”
Before I could question him, he told me that we didn't have much time and
that I needed to follow him. Something about the desperation in his voice
made me believe him. He started walking and I followed him.
“It's an honour to meet you. Back in my dimension, you're the most famous
fictional character. The book about your life has been read by millions. The
only problem is the ending. We have to change it”, he said.
What he was saying was unbelievable but at the same time, I couldn't help
but believe every word he said. He had curly hair and dark brown eyes. He
wore one of the most ridiculous outfi ts I had ever seen. He tried so hard
to act normal that people couldn't stop staring at him wi th amusement. He
truly looked like someone from another dimension.
After walking for half an hour, I asked him how my story ended and he said
that it ended with me dying of old age.
“How do the people of your dimension want the story to end?” I asked.
He told me they wanted the ending to be less boring. I asked him how he
planned to change the ending. He suddenly turned around, and grabbed my
wrists. He leaned forward and whispered, “Like this”. Before I could do
anything, he pulled out a knife and stabbed me.
Everything turned black. Shambhavi UniyalIX

ETERNITY
A bigger depth from the bridge
Too deep to bring upon a sin
Fought too hard to be an angel
Flying from heaven, am I dead?
A question to ask, is there a doubt
Maybe like the sun, I'll go down
Make a wish, take a gift
To fulfil the best dreams of the heart
Thank life for giving a chance
To be in cloud nine till the end of time
Have you thought how bad it is
To feel right or wrong, is this the sin?
Finally I jump into infinity
And fall into the water of eternity.

THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS - DIWALI
DIWALI
Diwali is celebrated with great joy as it was the day that Lord Rama won the
battle against Ravana and returned victorious to Ayodhya. During this festival,
people light lamps and burst a lot of crackers. The whole country is illuminated
by these lights. People wear new clothes and make a variety of sweets. They
also clean their houses and visit others' houses to distribute sweets.
Diwali is a festival filled with a lot of fun. I enjoy celebrating it every year. We
must remember to stay safe while bursting the crackers as accidents can occur.
We should also help the poor children by giving them clothes and sweets.
Wishing all of you a very happy, prosperous and safe Diwali! Sneha GaneshX A
One of the major festivals in India is Diwali. It is known as the festival of lights
and it is celebrated with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm by all the people,
irrespective of their religion.
Diwali, the festival of lights,
Has come yet again,
Bringing happiness and light,
But it's not such a good idea
To burst crackers as the pollution is
at its height,
It is time to decorate,
It is time to celebrate,
For five days,
Let's wear new clothes,
Let's not be lavish and greedy,
Let's give something to the poor and
needy.
