Drop-in strategy
The challenges are industry-wide.
• Publishers are adding more and more drop-in title in order to meet sales targets and to take advantage of timely media and event tie-ins. National accounts are pushing publishers to release catalogues earlier.
• Sales reps are unable to easily ascertain which titles they may have sold in and which may have been missed. There is no feedback loop for reps to see retailer action on drop-ins.
• Retailers and libraries are potentially missing sales when they order late or miss drop-in announcements. Libraries like to have data earlier in order to build holds - they need to know titles are coming in case they need to chase data. Retailers would like to collect pre-orders earlier. Deadlines to order can be missed on major drop-ins. There are so many notifications it's easy to miss critical information.
• Media can be unaware of late-breaking additions. Need to make deadlines .
• Wholesalers need to place orders in a timely enough manner to ensure their turnaround times to clients can be met.
