What is Quizizz?

– Quizizz is a formative assessment resource

– Geared towards teachers

– Students can access quizizz from any device- a desktop, laptop, tablet, or

smartphone

– Quizzes may be assigned and completed during class or may be completed for

homework

– Quizizz is free for teachers and students to use

Quizizz and MCS

– Marietta City Schools’ current mission statement is “To prepare each of our

students, through academic achievement, for college, career and life success.”

– Quizizz can help increase academic achievement

– Use of the quick feedback from formative assessments can help teachers determine

how to differentiate in their classrooms

– Quizizz is student paced which allows students to work without feeling pressure

from students who answer questions faster

– Reports and data can be saved and tracked within Quizizz, which can be especially

beneficial for students with disabilities and students who receive 504 services

– Marietta High School already has a BYOD program in place, so no new technology

will be required to be purchased

Who can use Quizizz?

– Quizizz is appropriate for all grade levels!

– Teachers can create their own quizzes, or use and edit pre-made quizzes

– Students can access quizzes from their own device, a computer lab, or a

classroom set of laptops or tablets

– Teacher accounts are free and student accounts are optional (and also free!)

– A quick overview of the technology can be given during pre-planning

– Additional support can be provided through technology coaches working

alongside specific departments, PLCs, or even individual teachers

What is needed for MCS to use

Quizizz?

– NOTHING!

– Teachers and students can use the resources that are already provided for them

– Teacher laptops can be used to create and assign quizzes

– Student may complete quizzes using their own devices, or a school desktop, laptop,

or computer

– Quizzes can be completed as homework in which students can use any device that

has a supported browser

– Technical support can be provided through Quizizz’s website

– Informative FAQ’s with embedded screenshots as needed

– Chat via quizizz website, email, or tweet for additional help

How can we protect students

using Quizizz?

– It is not required that students create an account in order to complete a quiz

– If students chose to create an account, minimal personal information is required

such as an email address

– Students can use only first names or initials to help provide anonymity online

– Teacher accounts can be completed and all stored data and reports are deleted

with the account

Quizizz in the Classroom

– Quizizz’s strength is that it is an online platform for formative assessment,

which means teachers and students can receive very quick feedback

– All reports can be saved indefinitely; this allows teachers to easily go back and

see student growth

– Reports show important data on different levels, including whole class and

student-by-student

– Teachers can share quizzes with one another- which is great for PLCs!

– Multiple settings on quiz modes allow teachers to decide what students see

More strengths of Quizizz

– Students can work individually or in groups on quizzes

– Quizzes incorporate avatars, themes, music, memes, and more to help keep students engaged and motivated

– Quizzes can be used as a review, a formative assessment, or even a summative assessment

– Students are able to complete quizzes at their own pace, which helps ensure results are more accurate since students will feel less pressure to answer the questions in a short amount of time

– Athough quizizz is designed to be student paced, each question has a maximum time limit of five minutes which helps keep students on track and prevents students from falling behind

Helping teachers use Quizizz

– Fortunately, many teachers at MHS have begun to implement technology in

their classroom more over the past year than they have before

– Most teachers have at least seen an online formative assessment (such as

Kahoot or Plickers) even if they have not utilized them individually

– Quizizz’s website is well designed and easily navigatable; majority of the

teachers will be able to create accounts and begin viewing, editing, or creating

quizzes with little to no instruction

– Professional development for Quizizz should begin with an overview during a

time such as preplanning, when all teachers can be exposed and can explore

quizizz with their colleagues

– If more support is needed, technology coaches can meet with teachers

individually, through PLC meetings, or even department meetings

Reflection

– The hardest part of choosing a technology to focus on, was trying to pick a resource

that very few teachers in my school use, as well as a resource that is relatable and

usable for almost all teachers

– It was also important that the technology be usable by all students

– As a teacher for students with disabilities, sometimes the technology given to me is not

appropriate for my students

– Quizizz allows me to make sure that my students can all read and understand the

questions and answers since I can create my own or edit preexisting quizzes

– One thing that I would like to see quizizz add in the future is a capability to read questions

and answers to students

– This experience helped me critique technologies that are available, especially since

there are many resources available that do the same thing

Reflection Continued

– I am excited to implement quizizz in my own classroom

– My students have seen online quizzes before, but many times the websites

make it confusing to edit premade quizzes, and students are rarely able to work

at their own pace

– I still believe that Quizizz’s best use is for formative assessments

– Seeing data on a class level and individual level can help me differentiate based

on block and student

– Results can help determine which students need remediation and which

students are ready to be challenged, which is beneficial since many of my

classes have a very wide range of ability levels
