Introduction to Investment Banking

Abstract

Investment banking courseand financial modeling training can open up new opportunities forrewarding and productive career paths in the financial industry. Most entry-levelinvestment

banking jobsare analyst positions, which are responsible for collecting data about markets and

possible investments and, often times, fairly menial tasks. Analysts work with this data to produce

predictions of market behavior or the performance of financial assets, and then provide

recommendations based on these predictions to managers and associates. Analysts with severalyears of experience may be promoted to associates, where they may be responsible for developing

client relationships, putting transactions together, coordinating research, managing analysts and

other subordinates, and other tasks.

Investment banking is a field of banking that aids companies in acquiring funds. In addition to the

acquisition of new funds, investment banking also offers advice for a wide range of transactions a

company might engage in.

Traditionally, banks either engaged in commercial banking or investment banking. In commercial

banking, the institution collects deposits from clients and gives direct loans to businesses and

individuals. In the United States, it was illegal for a bank to have both commercial and investmentbanking until 1999, when the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act legalized it.

Through investment banking, an institution generates funds in two different ways. They may draw

on public funds through the capital market by selling stock in their company, and they may alsoseek out venture capital or private equity in exchange for a stake in their company.

An investment banking firm also does a large amount of consulting. Investment bankers give

companies advice on mergers and acquisitions, for example. They also track the market in order togive advice on when to make public offerings and how best to manage the business' public assets.

Some of the consultative activities investment banking firms engage in overlap with those of a

private brokerage, as they will often give buy-and-sell advice to the companies they represent.

Course Objective

The objective of the new course is as follows:

To develop a new body of knowledge and make it available for those seeking challenging

careers in the new era of liberalization and globalization;

To impart a strong conceptual foundation in investment banking.

To give adequate exposure to emerging areas like securitization, financial engineering,

infrastructure financing, etc.;

To prepare individuals capable of providing leadership to investment banking organizations

operating in globalized environment.

Brief Description of the Course

This course is practical, hands-on, and result oriented. It will help students to learn

practical concepts and actual financial analysis performed by investment banks. This

course will also teach what bankers do every day. This course is very useful which makesstudents smarter and more employable and provide them with an competitive advantage
