How do you respect who you listen to? ___________________________________________________________________ Camp Next Wednesday our annual school camps will take place. Yr 5&6 children are staying at Living Springs, while the Yr 7&8 children are travelling to Hanmer Springs. Camp is always a fun, exciting and challenging experience, where we have a chance to work together and build relationships within the class, in a slightly different environment. If your child is going on camp, it would be a good idea to have them pack their own bags by going through the gear list (sent home last week) and then check what they have packed. Please ensure they have all the necessary items to keep them safe and happy. We look forward to working with your children as they grow and develop over the three days. Thank you to all parents who offered to help out and to those who are coming, we really appreciate the time you are giving up for all the children. Bernard Adams ____________________________________________________________________ Spencer Park Last Thursday Rm 3, 2 and 1 went to Spencer Park. First up Chanel House did two quizzes and they were really hard. When the whistle blew we moved to the next rotation with Mrs Watson. We had to try to get to the other side of the field without touching the grass using two light blue mats. For the next activity we stood in a line on the field and passed a tennis ball up and down. Both activities were timed. The next rotation was a game called shark attack and we had to use a parachute. It was hard work but it was fun in the end. Finally we heard the last whistle blow and we moved to Mr Adams group where we did a huge obstacle course around the playground. All the children said that it was so much fun. PALs is a Tuesday lunchtime sport activity group that aims to keep people working together, moving and having fun! There are four of us (Jessica Bull, Aimee Cook, Nicole Dooley and myself) working together to play games for the Seniors (Years 4–8) and Juniors (Years 0–3). We have not mixed our groups for safety issues. We would love to see you come out and play games with us on Tuesdays at lunch time. Sorry we will not be there in Week 5 because the Year 5-8 camps will be on taking place. See you in Week 6! Thank you. Antarctica On Monday a lovely lady called Alex, who had been to Antarctica to study seals, came to our school. She told us how scientists weigh the seals -they use a cover with a black bit at the end to cover

the seals eyes and to calm them down. Then they roll the seal onto a big tarp and two scientists use a tripod as a weighing machine. When Alex goes to Antarctica she wears about four layers of clothes to keep her body warm. On her feet she wears 3-4 layers of socks and big white boots. Alex said “Our dorms aren’t that big, there are only 2 beds, 2 desks and 2 dressers” and “There are 22 hours of daylight in the summer in Antarctica, so you need to pull the covers over your eyes.” We were really grateful to Alex for coming to teach us more about life down south and taking the opportunities when they present themselves to you. Thank you to Mr Gray and Ms Daines for organising her visit. Alisha Mill (Yr 8) ____________________________________________________________________ Room 1’s Sailing Trip Last Friday, Room 1 travelled by bus to Lake Rua (which is near the airport off John’s Road). We were all looking forward to

learning how to sail. The first thing we did when we got to the lake was get changed into our togs. Next, we were taught how to rig the boats and how to steer to avoid

collisions. By the time we started sailing, we knew almost everything we could about sailing - without practical application. We had a great time, especially when we got to go on the boats with a friend and when the wind picked up a bit. Thankfully we got to swim in the lake at the end. We were very thankful that KORE Sailing gave us the opportunity to go sailing and also to The Canterbury Sailing Trust for helping fund our visit.
