NEW BRAUNFELS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT Date: 5/25/2016 ORMS - Summer Reading Assignment (Incoming 7th Graders) Optional (Extra Credit for the 1st six-weeks) Hello from your Middle School Language Arts teachers! We are excited about the next school year and look forward to meeting you. Middle school is an amazing time, and you have the opportunity to begin this year with a resolution to be the best you can be. We are here to help you achieve that goal. We hope you enjoy your summer and view it as a time to relax and have some fun. We also hope you will continue to read as much as you can this summer. Studies show that reading at least 5 books over the summer helps you keep - and improve- your reading skills. If you can read, you will succeed. To get the new school year off to a great start, choose one of the books from the list below to read. Then you will read over the summer and complete one book project from the 2 options in this packet. Your project will be due the first week you return to school and will count as an additional test grade. (This grade will count as extra credit in your major grade category - - - a great way to start your new school year) Be prepared to discuss these books at the beginning of school. On a final note, though you only have to read one novel from this list in order to complete your summer project, please consider the remaining titles our list of “suggested reading.” If you are looking for a good book to read, these are all amazing works of contemporary literature. Have a GREAT summer, and we look forward to seeing you in August! 7 th Grade Summer Reading List Bull Rider by Suzanne Morgan Williams Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper Shelter by Harlan Coben The Crossover by Kwame Alexander The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Draanen If you have any questions during the summer about these assignments, please don’t hesitate to email me: Mrs. Jaramillo - [email protected] 430 W.
