A Message from Texas Municipal Courts Association Welcome! We are so happy that you have chosen to be here today and hope that you have a great learning experience. Your presence here indicates your dedication to improve your education and provides you a great opportunity to network and share ideas. Whether you are an attorney judge, a non-attorney judge, a clerk, court administrator, prosecutor, juvenile case manager, bailiff, or marshal you are an essential part of the municipal court system. You are joined by so many others: some having practiced a short time, many with years of experience, small towns, metropolitan cities, courts of record, and non-record. All of you have one thing in common: the ability to positively impact the municipal court system in your city. TMCA continues to dedicate itself to providing a comprehensive support system to municipal court personnel through quality education, active list serves, webinars, networking opportunities, top rate professional staff, aggressive legislative efforts, and over 1000 members from all over the great state of Texas. Membership in TMCA allows you to be a part of something greater than yourself. Texas has over 926 municipal courts and 1559 judges. The Office of Court Administration’s 2012 report indicated that over 14,442,152 cases were filed through the Texas Municipal Courts meaning that more people will pass through the municipal court than any other court system. For all of us who work in a municipal court, we know the daily work can be both rewarding and challenging. Every year we see increases in the number of cases filed, the expansion of jurisdiction, additional court costs, higher demands for reporting, and innovative technology opportunities. These demands and challenges are best met with a unified voice, shared resources, and quality education. TMCA’s goal is to make sure that we navigate these challenges together. Of course, this requires a commitment from each of you to participate fully. For all of you who are already members of TMCA, thank you for your dedication and support. For those of you who have not yet joined, I would encourage you to become a part of this important organization. Please visit our website at www.txmca.com, where you can find valuable resources and information on how to become more involved. I am excited to see the opportunities and changes this year will bring for municipal courts and am delighted that you will be a part of it. If you have any questions, comments, ideas, or information to share please do not hesitate to contact me. Good Luck and thank you for coming! Kathleen Person President, TMCA
