ON SALE NOW
10 MORE Reasons Why it will pay you to Buy or lease a GEORGE OLSEN Cadillac:
1. BETTER SERVICE We service more Cadillacs than any other dealer within a 40 mile radius. There must be a reason-we feel it's because we do a better job.
2. MORE CUSTOMER SATIS• FACTION Cadillac Motor Division rated us third in the nation in customer satisfaction out of 1,600 Cadillac Dealers. For the past two years, we've been one of only 3 volume Cadillac dealers in the country to win the prestigious "National Service Excellence Award", based on our customer's response to the quality of our service. We also won the coveted Time Magazine Quality Dealer Award and Cadillac Master Dealer Award.
3. LONGEVITY We are in our 51 st year as a G.M. Dealer in San Francisco, longer than any other Bay area Cadillac Dealer. Family owned, not a chain dealership, this is our only business.
4. MORE EXPERIENCE Our personnel have over 600 combined years of experience and 55% have over 10 years of service. There's a continuity here, not a different face each visit.
5. LARGEST FACILITIES The largest Cadillac facilities in this area with more space devoted to service and the largest body and paint department, which many Cadillac Dealers do not even have.
6. CENTRAL LOCATION Our central San Francisco location is convenient from anywhere in the Bay Area.
7. FLEXIBLE FINANCING Owning our own finance company allows ·us to offer terms other financial institutions are unwilling to offer.
8. BETTER SELECTION Always one of the Bay Area's largest Cadillac selections, housed under roof for greater protection. Your new Cadillac will be as fresh as the day it was produced.
9. PROVEN COURTESY The Customer is No. 1 here and we have the awards to prove it. ·our experienced sales and service people are professionals and will treat you like a Cadillac owner deserves.
10. LOWER PRICES Our large service volume covers most of our overhead, more than that of any other Cadillac Dealer in this area, so we can sell cars to you for less.
Where you buy is as important as what you buy. Discover the unique services and capabilities that set us apart from other dealers. The very best costs no more, and often less, with more service and satisfaction at George Olsen Cadlllac.

COVER STORY Seventy-two teams competed in the
Club-sponsored Trans-Tahoe Relay Meet this year, but the wind and the waves were high, and only 43 finished. One of them was our 'A' team which won the 14.4 mile swim in 6 hours, 12 minutes, as you will see on page 8.
Coach Dennis Berger took the cover picture and those inside to demonstrate nicely the versatility of our athletic staff. - THE EDITOR

DIAMONDS: THE UNIQUE GIFT When you're looking for a unique
gift, you usually shop for limited edition art or crafts or have something custom-made. It's in this area that fine diamond jewelry excels. Not only can the piece of jewelry made be a one-of-a-kind item, but the diamond is also one-of-a-kind.
No two diamonds are ever exactly alike. They may vary slightly in color. They may have inclusions which serve as fingerprints as well as birthmarks proving natural origin. They may be cut in any number of different ways. In fact, it's almost impossible to cut two diamonds exactly alike, since each diamond betrays the handiwork of one person alone.
About seven years ago an instrument came onto the market which photographs the reflection pattern that is unique to each diamond. Now a new laser engraving service is available which not only allows diamonds to be marked with a serial number but also to display a loving message that can be seen only under a microscope.
Whether you prefer a single large diamond or a cluster of smaller ones, you can have a special design created to suit your taste, a design that shows you took extra care in making your gift especially meaningful. At Sidney Mobell Fine Jewelry we specialize in personalized service. We regard our customers, like our diamonds, as individuals.
Two fine stores in San Francisco: 141 Post Street and in the Lobby, Fairmont Hotel. Phone 986-4747.

MEMO &0111 our Club Preside11t
I am delighted to announce the return of both Tom Marquoit, our General Manager, and Melanie Twohy,
our Executive Secretary. Tom had a triple by-pass on August 31, and Melanie had major surgery two days earlier. I would like to thank all of the Olympians who showed great concern and interest in their welfare.
In the October 1 statement you received notice of an increase in monthly dues, green fees and tennis fees. I would like to assure you that the increase was executed only after an extensive study by the Finance Committee and management and thorough review by the Board. On an individual basis, the monthly increase was modest, but spread over the entire membership the net improvement to cash flow will enable the Club to keep moving forward with its capital improvements and maintenance projects. I would point out that even with these monthly increases, there is no better club buy in the Bay Area when you consider all of the facilities and service that are available. The waiting list for both regular membership and golf privileges do indeed
support this economic viewpoint. At long last the Portman organization has commenced
demolition of the garage next to the city clubhouse. It is expected that it will take two years to build the 350 room luxury hotel. In the meantime, there will be inconvenience in the form of sidewalk barricades, noise, dust and most important, the lack of next door parking, although there are many garages in the near vicinity of the Club. We hope the construction work will not deter you from using the Club, particularly the dining rooms.
With regard to the use of the City Club Main Dining Room, members of the Women's Social Section may now use the facility unaccompanied by a gentleman member of the Club. The same dining privilege which has been in effect for years at the country clubhouse for Social Section members is now also in effect in the city clubhouse main dining room. Membership in the Women's Social Section is available through the Membership Secretary at the City Club. HERBERT F. SUHR

SWIMMERS BATTLE THREE■FOOT WAVES IN TRANS■TAHOE RELAY MEET
Club "A" Team wins Open Division in 6 hours, 12 minutes. "D" Team places third. 72 teams compete in annual OC-sponsored event.
by Bill Foehr
I F A PICTURE is worth ten thousand words, then recall the opening
footage from the early 60's "Victory at Sea" TV series and you will appreciate the water conditions confronting six Olympic Club relays which, together
with 72 other teams, competed in the annual Club-sponsored Trans-Tahoe Swimming Relays from Sand Harbor, Nevada, to Chambers Landing, California.
For the first time in nine years, it was not water temperature which took its
toll; instead it was a 25 m.p.h. west wind which whipped up three-foot waves causing almost as many problems for participants in the boats as for swimmers in the water.
Finishing first in the mens 25 + Relay was the Winged O "A" Team composed of Jim Griffith (Captain), Randy Williams, Jim Beglinger, Ed King, Mike Garibaldi and Ed Rudloff, Jr. in a time of 6 hours 12 minutes.
Close behind and finishing third in the 25 + in 6 hours 13 minutes was the Olympic Club "D" Relay; Jim Purcell (Captain), Post, Barthold, Dietrich, Hendrickson, Vanelli.
The Club's depth showed as less than 1 minute separated our two teams.
Other Olympic Club teams finishing were:
25 + "B,, (7th Open Divison) McNellis (Captain)
Creveling Clevenger Carlson Ferdon
Reid 25 + "C" (16th Open Divison)
Oviatt (Captain) Hubbel Ward
Lavelle Mah6ney
Laird 40+ "A,, (2nd 40+)
Gay Raven
Cartwright (Captain) Rice Hill
Harwood 40 + "B" (5th 40 +) Coghlan (Captain)
Foehr Clark Jones
Gaylord Sanborn
A challenging schedule of qualifying swims in San Francisco Bay arranged by outgoing Rough Water Commissioner, Bill Foehr, fully prepared club members for weather and water conditions which caused 29 of the starting teams not to finish.
Special thanks to Rawley Tandy, Susie Byars and the rest of the Club employees and members for all of their advance preparation and race day help.

WGS HALLOWEEN TOURNAMENT SET FOR OCTOBER 30
Lucille Feeney scores a net 66 in Northern
Awards Day play.
by Ruth Brush
W ITH the Invitationals behind us, the year winds down with the
Halloween Tournament set for October 30. Time will tell what Chairman Doris Barbata and her Co-Chairmen Terry Pierce and Dorothy Keays have in store for us for this special event. Watch the bulletin board for format and signup sheets.
Northern Awards day saw Lucille Feeney with a great 66 net on the Lake Course, a 95 with a 29 handicap, a very nice game! Tyke Glaser in second place in Class A, Ann Kingsbury third. Nele Needham led Class B, Ernestine Campagnoli and Cele Andrews tied for second. Gloris Greco won Class A on the Ocean Course, Doris Barbara second place, Adrienne Antonini third. Mercedes Bianco first in Class B, Barbara Giles first in Class C.
The Iron Tournament always has a small field on the Lake Course, but the winners there didn't miss their wood clubs at all. Pat Hermann showed her iron skill as she led the field, Bobbie Harris and Betty Duca following in second and third place. Three times as many women played the Ocean Course. Barbara Azevedo Class A winner with a nice 94, Margaret Duff right behind her with a 95 in Class A. Janet Leuenberger won Class B, even with a broken toe. Ernestine Campagnoli second. In Class C Mollie McGee was first, Marge Cowan second. This is the first year we've had Marge with us on Tuesdays, a nice addition to our group.
Best Low Net day, winners tied for Lake Course winners, Ellen Meyer and Ginny Atwood, Tyke Glaser in second place. Una Moloney, Eleanor Shea, and Joan Levy winners in Class B. Jean Tollini captured Low Net on the Ocean, Coralie Ferro and Janet Leuenberger (still limping) tied for second. Lee Ellis and Eileen Griffin first in Classes B and C.
Good turnout on Guest Day with continued on page 18

Spin and Swim teams ready for final drive
At the half way mark in the Spin and Swim competition, most of the individual leaders had reached or were nearing the maximum yearly total of 1600 laps. These included Glynn Jones, Rick Keller, Don Campbell, Arnold Weber, Bill Defries, J.C. Cala, Lincoln McGill, Dennis Rice and Pierre Merle. In team competition, the Sharks still looked like winners, but the Sea Lions, the Swordfish and the Seals are putting on an exciting year-end drive.

JUNIOR GOLF continued
while a blanket of fog surrounded the golf course.
Rusty Bacigalupi tallied 76-87 for 163 and third place.
In the Junior Low Net scoring, Matt Kennedy, with a steady 75-77-152, led the field followed by Kevin Clark with 155 and Scott Nelson with 156 (Nelson bettered his net score by 14 shots on his Friday round played on the Lake course!)
O.C. Professional Steve Videtta was responsible for the smooth functioning of the 20-man field. The weather took on a Jekyll and Hyde character, changing from the dank and windy 65 on the ocean to a bright, calm 75 on the lake.
The tourney capped a most successful season for Chairman Tom Molumphy's proteges. Led by Burlingame's Mike Blewitt, a varsity golfer from the University of Southern California, the Winged O won the Northern Division of the Bay City's Golf League with a 7 and 1 record.
The Olympians defeated their old nemesis Santa Rosa, Diablo, Green Hills, Marin, Meadow Club, Round Hill and Presidio, losing only to Crow Canyon on the Victor's Course in a squeaker.
As The Olympian goes to press, the Juniors begin a home-and-home match with the South Bay City's Castlewood Country Club. The winner will claim the entire Bay Area Championship.
