Each passage of hMSCs was maintained on the TCPS dishes with a pre-coating of Geltrex reduced growth factor basement membrane matrix (Invitrogen, CIBCO, NY). All hMSCs were maintained in the growth medium, Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium-low glucose (DMEM-LG) supplemented with mesenchymal cell growth supplement (MSCGM, Lonza) containing L-glutamine, penicillin, and streptomycin, and incubated in an atmosphere containing 5% CO2 at 37 °C. The medium was replenished every 3 to 4 days…Figueroa Johnny D., Serrano-Illan Miguel, Licero Jenniffer, Cordero Kathia, Miranda Jorge D., and De Leon Marino.Fatty Acid Binding Protein 5 Modulates Docosahexaenoic Acid-Induced Recovery in Rats Undergoing Spinal Cord Injury. Compounds, Oligos and Small Molecules This model mimics the transport properties of the BBB due to the formation of tight junctions, higher expression of specific carriers, or great cell viability. This 3-D in vitro model is developed by culturing brain endothelial cells with pericytes and astrocytes layered in an insert. This model improves endothelial cell polarization and enhance the formation of tight junctions, provide better endothelial cell-to-cell contact that is important for barrier development, and prevent the dilution of secreted neurotrophic factors, and these conditions collectively led to the development of an in vitro model that can truly mimic the BBB.
