TheG8316Ethernetaggregationswitchenablescustomerstoownanend-to-endflat2-tiernetworkthatisbasedonindustrystandardsusingIBMswitchesandservers.Forexample,theG8316isanidealtiertwoswitchtousewhenconnectinganumberofRackSwitchG826440Gbuplinkportsattheaccesslayer.OtherclientsliketheG8316asaninvestmentprotectionswitch,astheycanuseitwiththeir10GbEthernetenvironmentstoday,butcanalsoleverageitinthefutureastheymoveto40GbEthernet.
Withlatencybelow1microsecond,theG8316isanindustryleader.Thisandthe1.28TbpsthroughputmakestheG8316anidealofferingforlatency-sensitiveapplications,suchashigh-performancecomputing,financialapplications,hostingenvironments,andclouddesigns.Inaddition,IBMVMreadywithVirtualVisionenablesthenetworktobeVirtualMachine(VM)aware,andprovidesthecapabilitytohaveavirtualizationenvironmentthatissimpler,lessexpensive,andprovidesexceptionalperformance.Figure1showstheIBMSystemNetworkingRackSwitchG8316.
