Broadband is the new universal

In March 2010, the FCC published the National Broadband Plan to

guide the U.S. toward universal broadband. Fiber to the X (FTTx) is the

generic term for network architecture where optical fiber replaces all

or part of the traditional copper. The fiber starts and the central office

(CO) and stops at X—a residence or business or some remote point.

To upgrade from cable to fiber cable, apparatus and equipment

requires massive capital expenditures and careful planning to develop

the most cost-efficient plan and to build the optimum network.
