Easy Detailed Quality Check with FEC Analysis

Network errors are likely to occur when very high-

speed signals flow through 400G optical

transceivers. IEEE802.3 specifies error correction using FEC.

This technology change assures communication

quality and cuts costs. Checking the FEC correction rate offers an easy

check of optical-transceiver communications signal

quality.

■Easy tests of optical transceiver operation are:

BER-based Pass/Fail check

Optical output power monitoring

Internal status check using MDIO/I2C register access

■In addition, FEC is always ON to guarantee 400GbE Ethernet frame quality, so it is important to

check the FEC error correction status.

A quantitative performance check using the MT1040A FEC corrected Symbol Error distribution

supports selection of non-defective products before commissioning optical transceivers.

Also, if a failure occurs, the optical transceiver can be analyzed easily using a dedicated

Pass/Fail sanity check.
