Its uniqueness in naturePROJECT DESCRIPTION

A community based wireless internet access area called “The Wi-Fi Village” will be established in Buea, the town surrounding the only Anglo-Saxon university in Cameroon, The University of Buea. The wifi village will focus on educating this student community on how to use the internet for her own growth and development. It will also focus on spreading information technology knowledge to this needy population. This student community will be able to see the importance of the internet and how readily it can greatly impact their lives both educationally and socially. People in this community from extremely low income areas will be able to join the world in its quest for modernity. It is expected that through the provision of this information, this area will completely embrace the internet and all its other benefits will be their portion. A wireless antenna is planted on a well define and accessible location in this community. The range of the wireless antenna forms this village which will be about 100 square meters. In this fenced village people will be able to access the internet from any spot within it freely using their notebook computers. Limited amount of computers shall be provided in this village where people of this community will be able to come in and browse. These members will be able to participate in this village just by paying a very small fee called the sustainability fee through the entrance or gateway. This village will be design to look like a touristic site of attraction for many activities shall also be taking place to attract people with little or no interest for the internet. Seminars will be organized in this village to educate the business men and women in this community on how to carry their business online and through forums, they will be able to sell this goods in various parts of the nation and even to the stranger faraway. The Wi-Fi village will utilize volunteers who will be members of The Buea Netsquared Meetup Group. These members will be expected to acquire a kind of skill which will be given to them at the beginning. This training program will provide information on how to talk to people of this community by meeting them in their homes, through the media, in churches and other social gathering environments in this community. Each member volunteer will be expected to provide 3-5 hours each week and to continue working with the Wi-Fi village for a length of time. In this light the wifi village will be operating with full and part time workers. A Governing board made up of Meetup members will operate to provide overall sanctioning of the Center’s operation. Review of Key Objectives& Critical Success Factors

Helping the Netsquared volunteers to become effective educators.Organizing seminars to form Meetup teams that have common goals. And to improve on the growth of the wifi village. Many Meetup groups shall germinate and easily spread to the entire nation. Conferences shall be organized each year to monitor the growth and spread of information technology.BACKGROUND INFORMATION/STATEMENT OF PROBLEMMajor obstacles to the internet and knowledge about it in many communities in Cameroon includes, the benefits of the user, access to computers, how to use the computer, how to browse or surf the internet. Though there are spots of cyber cafes available in this community, it is hard to believe that most people do not have the understanding of exactly what the internet is meant for. The most significant thing in a world where information is badly needed is the internet. From recent statistic that was made from most colleges and universities in Cameroon shows that, student with knowledge on how to use the internet always have extended knowledge in most courses and will perform well in courses than students with little or no knowledge. Also statistic of the spread of information technology in most African countries shows that countries with more knowledge of the internet have most of their citizens embracing the need and importance of education than the others. The use of volunteers to provide community service is not a new concept in Buea and can be capitalized upon as a viable way to provide trained manpower for the offering of educational services. The first Buea Netsquared service scheme, the Buea Netsquared green project, was created in this same community and the idea was broadcasted. Papers were also sent to most of the regional offices. But the green project idea is now spreading all over the nation from secondary schools, churches, people in communities now sit as to see how they can bring development in their communities as teams. The Buea Netsquared Meetup team realized with time that most of this community groups lack information, especially information base on the use of the internet.. They also could not speak or participate globally. This is due to the absence of the internet in the community. It is also due to the lack of the knowledge of the importance of the internet in this community. So the idea of the Wi-Fi village came up. There will be convinced to hold most of their gatherings in the Wi-Fi village. Here they can be invited to attain seminars and in this wise knowledge about the internet and its importance to them will spread. The work of the green project has been on the emphasis to provide information to local farmers on how to improve in farming practices.
