Transcript of Netball
In 1871 Dr James Naismith invented the game Basketball with the help of a Canadian immigrant it was a very popular sport everyone played it even ladies did. But because of their long skirts, bustle backs, nipped waists, button up shoes, leg-of-mutton sleeves made dribbling and running hard so they had to adapt to the sport. So they divided the court into thirds and the number of players increased by five to nine and they used a smaller ball. There were two umpires, two scorers and two timekeepers.
History
Then in 1901 in England the first set of rules for netball was published and netball officially came into existence in England. The century school teachers from England to many different countries taking netball with them or ‘women’s basketball’. Then in 1970 Australia and New Zealand named it netball. In 1938 the first international game of netball was played Australia vs. New Zealand and Australia won 40-11.
History
In England in 1895 the ladies had to use broomsticks for posts and wet paper bags for baskets they played the netball game on grass. In 1898 the court was divided into thirds, the number of players increased from five to nine and a smaller ball (a soccer ball) was used. There were two umpires, two scorers and two timekeepers – almost as many officials as players for each match.
In those early days the nets were not open at both ends and after each goal was scored, the umpire had the task of retrieving the ball from the top of the post.
History

The Netball uniform is made up by a top, skirt, bib. We need a bib on the Netball uniform so we know which position we are and so the other team knows too. The skirt is so we can move around freely and not in shorts because it would be to hard cause we need to jump and run to get the Netball ball.

In Netball the equipment you need use to play the game is you need a Netball court the is split up into 3 quarters, Netball ball, the Netball teams uniform, joggers/socks, Need to have 7 players on the court and at least 3 reserves in case somebody gets hurt on the Netball court and so that other players can rest after they played a 15 minute quarter.
Equipment
1. C/Centre is allowed every were excepted in the goals. There job is to get the ball to the goals..
2. WA/Wing Attack is allowed in two of the three quarters and not in the goals. They try to stop the ball getting to the goals.
3. WD/Wing Defence is also allowed in two of the three quarters and not in the goals. They also try to defend the ball from going down to the other teams shooter.
4. GD/Goal Defence is allowed in two of the three quarters and is aloud in the goals. There most thing to defend is the GA from getting the ball to shoot.
5. GK/Goal Keeper is allowed in one of the three quarters and is aloud in the goals. They try to defend to keep the ball from getting in the goals.
6. GA/Goal Attack is allowed in two of the three quarters and is aloud in the goals. GA has the job of trying to shoot the ball into the goals.
7. GS/Goal Shooter is allowed in one of the three quarters and is aloud in the goals. GS is also there so that they can also try to shoot if the GA can’t.
Area’s
The court is split up into 3 quarters, the middle quarter where the circle is so that the Centre can pass the ball from the middle. The left, right hand side quarter where the goal circles are located so that the shooters can score the goals. From half way on the sideline the court is split so that the umpires can referee half a court each. The sideline is 30.5 metres long and the baseline is 15.25 metres long.
The Court
Sponsors are used to provide the teams with the equipment that they need e.g. Netball balls, joggers, Netball uniform, To supply the match with all the equipment, To provide umpires. These are very helpful with Netball players because how much that they use these things like joggers they were them out good so they need new ones so a sponsor for that is good for them and Netball balls.
Sponsors
There are 7 Major Netball teams that play in ANZ Championship they are the NSW Swifts, Queensland Firebirds, Adelaide Thunderbirds, Melbourne Vixens, West Coast Fever, Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic, Haier Pulse, Northern Mystics, Easiyo Tactix, Southern Steel. Netball is a very energetic game where you are jumping and running around.
My experience playing netball is that I injure myself, especially my ankles and knees.
When I was in primary school at St Nicholas I was selected to go to Inverell to try out for diocesan netball. I had to play a lot of games to try and get selected. Students from all around the region were selected to try out.
My experience in Netball
Well when I was trying to get the ball I fell over trying to get the ball so I was lying on the ground when a girl on the other team came and just sat on me.
When the team that we were versing scored a goal we went and lined up to get ready for the Centre to pass the ball the whistle went and I tripped over straight away grazing my chin, knees, arms and they wanted me to come off but I stayed on the court and played on.
Funny Things that happened to me
