Installation Guide 5

1 Introduction

This digital signage player is an appliance enabling you to display a wide range of multimedia contenton a screen.

In manycases, you will set up the player to receive content over a network from a central server.Higher-endmodels of player can provide that content for multiple other players. Alternatively, theplayer's built-in software provides you with themeans to create andmanage content locally.

A typical digital signage configuration looks like this:

This guide describeshow you install allmodels of player. Do so by completing the stepsdescribed inthe succeeding sections:

l Checking the package.

l Positioning the player.

l Connecting the player.

l Logging in to the player.

To orient yourself, youmight find it useful to read through the guide before starting the installation. Ifyou aremounting your player behind the screen, on the wall, or in a rack, a read-through will also helpyou decide when it will be easiest to perform that task.

For detailed information on how to use all of the player's features, refer to theUser Guide or to thecontext-specific help. Theyare available through theHelp menuwhen you are logged in to the player.

2 Checking the Package

Unpackall of the items in the package.

Aswell as this Installation Guide, check that the delivery contains all of the necessary items:

l Player hardware.

l Mainspower lead. Somemodels also comewith an external power supply unity (PSU).

Caution: Do not use a PSU supplied for other products as it maydamage the player.

l Screen, wall, or rackmount brackets (depending on the details of the order).

l Remote control (if ordered).

If any item ismissing, contact your supplier.

3 Positioning the Player

To achieve the high reliability the player is engineered to deliver, identify a suitable location for itsinstallation.

These are the keypoints to consider:

l If the player hasa hard-disk drive, locate it where the ambient temperature never exceeds35 °C.

l If the player hasa solid-statememory, locate it where the ambient temperature never exceeds50 °C.

l If you aremounting the player behind the screen, follow the indicated orientation to ensure thebest convection-induced cooling.

l To allow unimpeded airflow, ensure aminimum clearance of 50mm around the player, especiallyby the ventilation slots.

4 Connecting the Player

Connect up the player with all of the input and output cables required for your configuration.

Before beginning, note these points:

l Connect the power cable or adapter to the power supply but do not plug into the player until askedto do so later in this section.

l Connect the network cable even if the player is equipped with a wirelessoption. You have toenable the wireless connection before the player can use it (as explained later in this guide).

l If connecting a TV capture card requiring an audio-in cable, plug it into the blue connector on theplayer not into a connector on the card.

l If connecting equipment controlled through an RS-232 interface, youmust use the USB to RS-232adapter available from themanufacturer to ensure compatibility.
