Future proof hardware

All Nera F77 installations are prepared for the next generation

of Inmarsat satellites. When these come into service there

will be no need to upgrade the hardware.

Guaranteed safety with pre-emption system

The Nera F77 also guarantees the same level of maritime

safety as for the Inmarsat B system.

The entire communications system can be

overruled by rescue authorities anywhere in

the world. By virtue of a pre-emption facility,

emergency services always get through

between the ship and rescue centres – even

when the voice or data channels are in use.

The built-in hierarchical priority guarantees

that emergency and safety messages can

never be overridden.

A revolution in online maritime communications

For nearly 25 years Nera maritime satellite

communications have been relied upon throughout

the world’s oceans.

With Nera F77 we are continuing our long experience

with 64 kbps high speed data and high quality

products dedicated to the maritime market.

It’s this unrivalled knowledge combined with the

proven reliability of the Nera Saturn B satellite system

that has positioned Nera as the acclaimed world

leaders in marine communications.

Now with the launch of the Nera F77 terminals,

vessels will be able to communicate like offices

at sea.

The new online world of Maritime Mobile Packet Data Service (MPDS)

With Nera F77, ships at sea will have at their command the

communications tools associated with everyday business on

land. That’s because the Nera F77 terminal uses the world’s

first global maritime Mobile Packet Data Service (MPDS).

This gives a ship online access to a whole range of

applications like the internet and e-mail.

The beauty is that this service can be ‘always on’. Because

you only pay for the data transmitted, not for the time

connected, you can choose to be permanently online.

Your vessel need never be out of touch.

With improved information flow, improved vessel

management will follow. Fleet management will now have

a more efficient ship/shore logistics system available to

them 24 hours a day.

NER643 F77 8pp Brochure 21/2/02 3:18 pm Page 3

Treat your vessels like mobile offices

Having MPDS facilities online every minute of the day and

night brings an ocean of new IT benefits to fleet managers

on land and crews at sea. For example, data networks

onboard vessels can be integrated into their companies

network on land. As well as being able to use the internet

and e-mail, onshore management will also have online

access to the parameters which maximise cost-efficient

operation... cargo data, fuel status, position, speed,

maintenance schedules, engine parametrics and so on.

Quite simply, a fleet with Nera F77 terminals installed can

be run more efficiently.

High-speed ISDN link for fast data transmission

The Nera F77 package also includes high-speed ISDN at

a 64 kbps, which permits fast data transfer.

With Nera F77 much-improved voice, fax and data access are

possible. Vessels can now take part in video conferencing,

multiplexing several voice, fax and data connections, have

encrypted communications...and lots more.

Nera F77. Now vessels can permanently communicate like offices at sea

It allows group 3 analogue faxes to transmit at speeds of up to

14.4 kbps and for group 4 faxes to send one page in a few

seconds at 64 kbps. You also have output for Broadcast services

such as differential GPS signal and weather and chart updates.

With both MPDS and ISDN on board you have the best of

all worlds; choice of applications, speed and transmission

quality – as well as improved personal and social contact.

Whilst the immediate operational and safety benefits of

Nera F77 take the headlines, there are also considerable

human advantages.

As well as passengers on cruise ships and pleasure craft,

the crew on cargo vessels will enjoy vastly improved

communications facilities through the benefit of e-mail.

This makes life easier for family contacts – which everyone

who is away from home for long periods will appreciate.

With access to the internet, e-mail and instant messaging,

remote training and education comes into their own.

And company training courses can now be run much more

easily and effectively on board.

A choice of two models

Nera F77 terminals are available in two different

configurations – one is a deck-mounted installation,

the second is mast mounted. This means that virtually

all designs of vessel, both large and small, can be

accommodated. In each case the new antennae are

notably compact and easy to install.

Both models feature terminals which form the integrated

hub of the vessel’s communication system. The Nera F77

below-deck equipment easily connects (plug and play) to

telephone, PC and fax equipment throughout the vessel.

Configuration is easy using a PC man-to-machine interface.

The unit can also transfer internal and external calls from

one user to another, like an onboard PABX.

Nera. Unrivalled service and support around the clock – around the world

And our unique global network of support centres with

Nera trained and certified engineers, provide unrivalled

service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in 30 key ports

around the world.

We also offer comprehensive operation, maintenance and

service training to your personnel, thereby maximizing the

full potential of Nera F77 for your fleet communications.

With Nera F77 you receive total peace of mind in the

knowledge that you are with the company with the longest

heritage in maritime communications, with a two year

warranty from date of installation by a Nera certified

engineer, and a global support network unmatched for its

scale or efficiency.

Nera F77. Now ships at sea cancommunicate like offices on land.Online every minute of the day – and night.
