The students had a chance to meet some new Christian friends from other schools and also to learn a little bit about life as a NELHS student. We pray that many of these young people will come to NELHS in a few years as students. Sports Update The football team’s record stands at 2-5. The boys are continuing to adjust to the higher division and stiffer competition that comes with the higher division. The volleyball team’s record is 13-8; they finished 2nd in the conference and are looking forward to district play. Association News The association delegates met on October 19 and reviewed reports regarding what has been happening at NELHS during the last six months. They also approved a 2% in increase in tuition for next year. Recruitment Update Another student has enrolled at the end of first quarter. She is our 27 th junior and 95 th student. Praise the Lord! Visits to all of our Lutheran elementary schools are now taking place. There is a significant early application discount if the application is received by November 30. If you know of an 8 th grade student or a potential transfer student, encourage them to contact us and apply early. Our recruitment goal for next year is 40 new students by the first day of school in August of 2015. So far, we have one student who has applied for next year. If you are interested in finding out more about our ministry or have a family with whom we can share our mission with, please contact Administrator Mark Otte at [email protected] or call 402-728-5236. Please pray for this goal! October 2014 Nebraska Evangelical Lutheran High School WACO, Neb. 10/19/2014 - At 3:05 a.m. Sunday, a loaded coal train with 119 cars derailed in Waco, Nebraska. Of the 119 cars, 28 went off the tracks. The crossing is still closed. It happened right next to the Central Valley Ag Co-op, in Waco at 202 Midland. The Co-op was not struck. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. BNSF, which operates the train, says it will take a few days to clean up the mess. http://www.1011now.com/home/headlines/Train-Derails-Near-Waco-Neb-279703982.html Waco is generally considered to be one of the quietest, safest places you could find. Even quiet Waco can occasionally make the news as you see in the local newspaper article above. Thankfully, other than possibly being awakened, all of the residents in Waco were safe. We, of course, are concerned with our students’ safety here at Nebraska Lutheran. We have cameras at every door, a locked- down campus, and take precautions daily to enforce a safe environment. The students’ physical safety is just one small part of our concern, we are also working to keep them emotionally safe as they experience the ups and downs of their teen years. Having Christian parents, friends, and teachers to counsel them through these rough times is so important. Our biggest concern, however, is their spiritual safety. The devil is fighting for their souls every day. Temptation after temptation come flying at them. Unfortunately, sometimes those temptations catch and sin occurs. The law shows that sin plainly to them and guilt is often the result. Thankfully, we get to tell them about the forgiveness that was won for them through Jesus Christ. This forgiveness is complete and is for everyone. The devil can’t win against this news, they are safe. As adults, we also face wave after wave of temptation and find ourselves sinning daily. We are saved through Jesus Christ! How wonderful that news is for us to hear. We join with David in the words of Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall be afraid?”
