Northeastern Illinois UniversityFounded in 1867, Northeastern Illinois University has a rich tradition of educational innovation and prides itself on preparing teachers and administrators who make a difference in Chicago. That tradition continues to this day and has expanded to include an array of academic disciplines, allowing the university to embrace fully the communities in which it resides. Northeastern Illinois University is regarded as the most diverse public comprehensive university in the Midwest. Diversity is an important factor in the character of Northeastern and in the social fabric of its student body.

NEIU has also expanded to having five locations in the Chicagoland area. Its main campus is located on 67 acres in a quiet, residential community area of North Park, just 10 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. NEIU offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate programs in the arts, sciences, education and business.

Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies (CCICS)The Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies is located in Chicago’s historic Bronzeville neighborhood. Established in 1966, CCICS is recognized worldwide as an African-centered institution of higher learning that maintains a scholar-activist tradition and a warm, caring educational climate. Bronzeville has a rich history as the center of Chicago’s African-American community and culture. Since Bronzeville’s establishment in the early 1900’s its residents have included some of the city’s most famous and influential African-Americans.

El CentroSince 1968, El Centro has been a focal point of access to higher education opportunities for the Latino community. It has a permanent new home in a 55,000-square feet, LEED certified and state-of-the-art building in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood. It also serves the community through NEIU’s Community Education Program in partnership with community organizations in the neighborhoods of Albany Park, Hermosa, Logan Square and Avondale. English as a Second Language and computer literacy workshops are offered, as well as seminars on education, immigration, health and housing.

Center for College Access & SuccessFounded in 1978, the Center for College Access and Success at Northeastern Illinois University develops collaborative partnerships that engage entire communities to help students succeed both academically and socially. They are the award-winning community educational outreach center.

About the IndependentSince 1962, the Independent has been a public forum for the university and community around Northeastern Illinois University. The Independent is completely student-run and receives no prior review of its content by anyone other than its student editors. The Independent is a member of the Illinois College Press Association and Associated Collegiate Press and has been the recipient of over 60 awards, most notably for Design and Best in Show.

The Independent is printed by one of the largest and most advanced newsprint companies in North America. Unmatched printing capabilities and consistent attention to detail ensures that the Independent is of top qualitiy each time. Our printer keeps advertisers in mind by using the highest caliber color and quality of on each page.

The Independent is printed in tabloid format (11” wide x 11” tall). Pages have five columns and are 10” tall. Each column is approximately 2” wide.

ProductionPublished bi-weekly on Tuesdays online and in print during the academic year, with the exception of breaks. The newspaper has a current print circulation of 2,000 copies per issue and is delivered for free at four of NEIU’s campus locations: its main campus, CCICS, El Centro, and the Center for College Access and Success.

Print Advertisements

Files of advertisements must be sent via e-mail to:[email protected]

We will accept ads digitally if in the following formats:- .indd, .eps, .tiff, .pdf

Submit by the Tuesday before the print date. This will allow enough time for any changes or alterations that need to be made.- Files must be a minimum of 300 dpi- Include all images- Provide original photos- Delivered logos, artwork, or faxed artwork are NOT acceptable- When submitting ads, make sure ad is correctly sized, and if scaled, in the correct proportions- If e-mailing a zip file, it must be less than 10 megabytes total- Please include ALL fonts (must be zipped if e-mailing) or convert to paths

We have the above spaces available for advertising your business.

$20 per cycle reserves any of the above spaces for 2 weeks.

No advertisement designed yet? Need changes made to your advertisement? Not a problem. For an additional cost, our graphic and visual artists will work with you and design your advertisement with any information or logo you wish.

Design

For all design commissions it is required to give an additional week’s notice as to ensure your advertisment is of the highest quality and meets all specifications. Ads commissioned within seven days of the intended run date may be subjected to an additional $25 Rush Priority charge.

Terms and ConditionsBoth the publisher (hereafter known as Independent) and the Advertiser (hereafter known as the Advertiser) shall both agree that the advertising agreed upon between both parties is governed by the following terms and conditions in regards to any requested advertisements (hereafter known as Advertisement) for publication within the Independent:

1. All advertising orders are subject to the terms, conditions and rates of the Independent’s advertising rate card. All initial Advertisement requests must be made in writing and publication of an Advertisement denotes acceptance of the Advertisement. Any subsequent advertising or renewal of a previous Advertisement must also be made in writing, unless otherwise stated in the final contract.

2. The Independent reserves the right to reject any advertising. Advertisements that discriminate on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation or other protected class or group under Illinois state law will not be accepted. Any advertising containing false or misleading facts or statements or containing lewd or vulgar content will be rejected and any tangible materials returned to the sender.

3. Any and all advertsing of products, services or promotions that are illegal in the state of Illinois will be denied.

4. All advertising that is submitted for publication after the deadline agreed upon in the final contract for the requested issue will only be accepted at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief (hereafter known as the EIC).

5. The Independent reserves the right to offer and recognize any special offers or promotions on advertising packages that carry special rates.

6. Any advertising that is offered as “Pro Bono” or at zero cost to the Advertiser is at the discretion of the EIC.

7. A discount of 15% will be applied to advertising by any student, teacher or employee of Northeastern Illinois University (hereafter known as NEIU) that is able to show valid NEIU identification.

8. All payments for published advertising must be received within 30 days of the billing date. A late fee of $25 or 10% of the total cost of that Advertisement, whichever is greater, will be assessed on the 31st day and will be charged each week thereafter

until the balance is paid in full. Unless agreed upon in writing by the EIC and Advertising Manager (hereafter known as AM).

9. Compensation for any errors made by the publisher will be at the discretion of the Independent and can be compensated for by the offering of discounted additional advertising space and/or free advertising only. No cash refunds can be made.

10. The Independent assumes no liability for the financial loss to any business, club, organization or individual for failure to publish any Advertisement nor does it guarantee any increase in profits or sales through the publication of any AM.

11. Any cancellation of Advertisement must be made in writing and received at least 72 hours prior to the publishing deadline of that issue. Cancellation between 72 hours and 48 hours will result in billing for non printed adversitement. Advertisements can not be canceled after 48 hours and will be published and billed accordingly. This applies to all ads excluding full page and full back page ads.
