A painted tunnel would give our community another reason to be proud of our neighbourhood. We’d love to hire a painter to paint the outside ends of the Greg Curnoe tunnel with bicycle themed murals to celebrate the history of that tunnel and how the cycling paths connect our communities.

The neighbourhood would take more pride in being a quirky hip community. I think the Coves and Riverforks can take on the quirky hip vibe and own it. Having cool art throughout a neighbourhood makes the community appreciate it more and feel a sense of identity. I think having the tunnel painted would give our community something to be proud of. Plus there’s going to be way more foot traffi c through that tunnel while the Wharncliff e underpass gets redeveloped.

Garden Variety is a collaborative project between musicians and the gardens that grow in London. With our device, we can record data from plants and transfer it into musical notation. Our goal is to work with local musicians to create a recording to be released on physical media.

Ultimately, this project aims to connect neighbours to the magical world that exists – literally – in their own backyard! We will discuss plants, community gardening and sustainable food with our neighbours while recording their gardens. Additional recording would be produced by local musicians of all ages, genders and backgrounds bringing our music community together in a new way. This project would build stronger communication and relationships between the divided sections of our art community.

Total Cost = $5,000

The Kensington Village neighbourhood is continuously working to create community. A community in which people are cared for, events are celebrated, and we work together to care for our world. The Neighbourhood Porch Concert Series will continue their mission of bringing neighbours together to share summer evenings of music and friendship in 2020. Formerly the Woodfi eld Community Porch Concert Series, we will expand to collaborate with other community associations of London’s historic Central neighbourhoods.

The Neighbourhood Porch Concert Series will create new positive relationships through collaboration towards a shared goal, and by simply being a lot of fun. All ages will enjoy an evening of music together, as well as those who might not be physically or fi nancially able to attend other types of concerts. It will also connect neighbourhoods with younger local musicians. The series will additionally encourage walking and cycling among attendees, provide a chance for young families to meet other nearby young families, and provide a fun, safe, communal music experience that celebrates the neighbourhoods in which we live.

We would host a pop-up tent at the Woodfi eld Plant Exchange that would educate people on ways they can reduce their carbon footprint. We would draw people in by giving away a certain number of the new cone digesters, and a certain number of rain barrels.

The City of London has declared a climate emergency. Often people are unsure how their individual actions can make a diff erence. Food waste is one of the biggest contributors to global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. By providing the resources (composters and rain barrels) to encourage neighbourhood residents to reduce their GHG emissions, it will help the city as a whole meet its emission reduction targets.

100 free Cone Food Digesters to be distributed to neighbours to use in their backyards.

Implementing a green bin program is very costly in dollars and the environment. The Cone also does a very effi cient job of returning nutrients into the ground, as the waste is digested into a liquid form which fl ows into the surrounding soil, enriching any nearby plants. No food waste in the landfi ll, richer soils, lowest cost to the municipality. Win. Win. Win.

Painting the crosswalk at Hamilton Rd. and Sackville St. with the colours of the Indigenous Medicine Wheel. The interpretive sign will explain the signifi cance of the diff erent colours of the Medicine Wheel, highlighting the Indigenous medicine garden in the area and recognizing the large Indigenous population in the neighbourhood.

The painted crosswalk will bring forth Indigenous identity that is already present in the Hamilton Road area. The initiative can potentially harmonize the Indigenous Teaching and Healing Garden, Crouch Neighbourhood Resource Centre, as well as Hamilton Road Business Association and their tree trunk tour. The community repairs bring an opportunity to not just beautify the Hamilton Road area, but grow cultural awareness.
