From the Desk - Amber Andrews, Nurse Educator Good Neighbor Society remains in phase 1 of the reopening guidelines for long-term care facilities. To progress to phase 2, there must be a downward trend in the number of confirmed COVID cases within Delaware County over the last 14 days and unfortunately this has not been the case. Residents can have outdoor visits weekly. Residents in isolation or experiencing any COVID symptoms not normal for that resident such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, runny nose, congestion, headache, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea will not be able to have outdoor visits until isolation precautions are lifted and symptoms resolve. Window visits can resume for residents in isolation precautions or who are symptomatic. Residents that leave the facility for scheduled appointments including dialysis, dental, provider visits, home safety assessments, etc. will no longer be placed in isolation upon their return to the facility unless the resident is symptomatic. Residents will be assessed prior to leaving the facility and within an hour of returning to the facility. Residents sent to the emergency department or admitted to the hospital will be placed in isolation precautions for 14 days upon their return to the facility. Please continue to wear PPE appropriately; ensure face masks are pinched along the bridge of your nose and cover your chin. Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands and practice social distancing. Thank you for helping us keep all residents and team members healthy and safe! Neighborly News August 2020

Playing cards has always been a favorite pastime of Eldora’s, and she is always up for going for a ride to see the colorful fall leaves. She also likes getting a new hairstyle and outfit to look her best for special occasions. Eldora stays busy here at the Good Neighbor Home by attending exercise and craft classes, playing cards, and playing bingo, in addition to watching TV and reading. Congratulations, Eldora!

Good Neighbor Home

Ready, Set, Grow! Good Neighbor Home’s healing garden has new raised garden beds thanks to Eagle Scout candidate Nicholas Stocks and his team: Tresa Devaney, Wes Devaney, Bill Stock, Caleb Stocks, Michael Stocks, Hannah Clemen, and Nick Murray. The team also did some repair and painting of picnic tables. Be sure to check out these new gardens next time you are enjoying a beautiful day outdoors!

g. Staying Connected

The Good Neighbor Home received a COVID-19 grant from Iowa Department of Human Services to provide residents with communicative technology and accessories. With this grant, we purchased two Samsung tablets, two iPads, two Portals, protective cases, headphones, tripods, and charging stations to help residents stay connected to loved ones. We are still offering video chats during COVID-19 precautions, and you are welcome to sign up for them at https://volunteersignup.org/RAXWK Remember to stay connected to Good Neighbor Society on the Spectrio SHARE (formerly LifeShare) app!

Staying Hydrated

Over $2,000 in funds raised on Great Give Day were used to purchase a new hydration station and fountain pop machine for residents, team members, and visitors (once we are able to have them back in the building)! Thank you to the 20+ generous donors who made this possible and to our Food & Nutrition Department for keeping it stocked with delicious beverages!

Sweet Corn

Nothing says summer in Iowa like fresh sweet corn! Residents enjoyed demonstrating their husking skills and preparing a tasty side dish.
